Weight gain during pregnancy

Weight gain during pregnancy

I gained 14 lbs.  already and I am only 15 1/2 weeks pregnant.  The midwife that I saw yesterday yelled at me. I do not feel like I am overeating and I am not eating alot of junk food.  Has anyone else experienced this much of a weight gain at 15 weeks??

I don't remember what my gain was at the point in my pregnancies, but I gained 50lbs with my first child....and 35 with the second.  I am in EXCELLENT condition now, and I'm in my 30's and have a 3&4 year old.

My dr. didn't yell at me, but I did feel that I was being reprimanded like a bad child for my weight gain.  Are you over weight?  If so, it would be more harmful to gain unnecessary weight.....In addition, if you don't feel good about this woman, get rid of her now!  There is NOTHING worse than a drill sargeant labor and delivery nurse!

So glad you posted about weight gain.  I started out at 137 and now, at 9w am 144.  That is seven pounds - which I think is to much, but the dr said it is good that I am gaining weight - who knows.  I know with my last child, 11 years ago, I gained 25pounds and remember in the second month gain 7 and then 2-3pounds a months after that, so maybe this one is the same. With my first I gained 60.  I am in good shape, but right now my belly is soft and big - not baby yet either :-(

I started at 150 lbs.  I am 5'6".  I don't think I look overweight but she really upset me because I have always struggled to stay at a normal weight.

I PERSONALLY GAINED 12LBS IN THE FIRST 2 MONTHS, AND THEN ENDED UP LOSING IT, NOW IM ONLY 2LBS OVER WHAT I WAS BEFORE PG.....LET YOUR BODY DO WHAT IT NEEDS TO....MY MOTHER GAINED ALMOST ALL OF HER BABY WEIGHT IN HER FIRST TRIMESTER...FOR SOMEONE TO YELL AT YOU IS A LITTLE IRRITATING, BUT IF YOURE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT AND EATING WHEN YOU FEEL HUNGRY IT CAN'T BE WRONG.....STAY STRONG! EVERYTHING WILL TURN OUT GREAT! GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

With my first pregnancy I had gained 15 pounds by 17 weeks and topped off at 60 pounds. I am currently 16 weeks and have gained 6 pounds. I keep trying to be good but then I eat a whole container of Lays BBQ chips.

I find the more I stress about it the more hungry I get.

I with you girlfirend.  I struggle to keep at 135 for years.  I have hypothroidism too, which doesn't help.  I think that is some of the weight gain because it has gotten worse.  Everyone is different.  I'm glad I'm not the only one gaining.  I jog a little too and walk.  Funny the days I walk the next day I weight more, if I skip a day, I weight less.  One day I was 147 and the next 144.  Could be water weight. I worry about gaining to much.

I gained 9lbs in my first 2 months and I didn't think I was overeating or anything like that!  There were also months later on that I only gained 1 lb. so I think it evens out in the end as long as you are careful not to go CRAZY while eating for 2!!!!!

I've gained almost 25 pounds and I'm only 27 weeks.  It really sucks because with this pregnancy I have been careful about what I eat and the weight is still piling on like in my first pregnancy (I gained 65 pounds)  Sometimes your body decides to get fat and you don't have complete control over it.

My last appt I was 24 weeks and I was up 20 pounds.  My doctor reprimanded me too even though I was in the weight range I was supposed to be in from everything I've read.  Even though it was the high end.  Maybe it was partially due to the fact that that month I gained 8 pounds instead of 4 like I was supposed to.  But this month I've gained 3.5 pounds so I'm not worried about it.  It's normal to have a month where you gain a lot and not much the next.  As long as your eating pretty healthy don't worry about it.

I've gained 30 lbs and am 26 weeks.  I don't think it was proper of your midwife to yell at you.  I think our bodies gain what they need to gain.  I have been very active this whole time but I started out with a low body fat%.  Everyone is different.

To a point, I agree with the posters who say that their bodies need to gain some weight.

But gaining in excess of 25-30 pounds for the entire pregnancy can put you at risk for several serious pregnancy complications.

Good luck to all.  The original post is several years old, so if anyone wants to bring up weight or other issues, its always best to make a new post.

The midwife YELLED at you?  I'd have my paperwork faxed to another midwifery and never go back to see someone who would yell at me or make me feel bad about weight gain.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant, and have gained 10 pounds.  And it's ok :)  With my first, I gained 40 pounds and it was all gone in 2 months.  Just eat nutritious food and listen to what your body needs.  Also, breastfeeding helps you lose weight quickly.  Hope that helps!

Hi all

I am looking at this site as i have no idea what sort of weight gain to expect and from what I've read, it sounds like it differs from person to person. I am goin into my 6th week and have only gained 300g/ .3kg (=0 lb and 10.58 oz) [I had to use a converter for that!! LOL] It is nothing but I statred out at about 4kg (8lbs) over my ideal weight and was hoping to loose it BEFORE I became PG. Now what?? Am only seeing my doc on Fri next week. I don't want to get all paranoid, but being 40, I am afriad to gain too much weight and then struggle to loose it afterward. I am eating no more than usual and trying to up my exercise a bit. Any advice?
