What are the chances?

by Stan33, Jul 12, 2003 12:00AM
My girlfriend called me yesterday telling me that she is a day late. She has been taking triphasil for about 7 months now and we have always used a condom as well within the last two months. If she doesn't get it today, she'll be 3 days late and she is very worried. I'm dumb when it comes to this, and frankly, a little scared myself. She's not always on the samwe day as far as I know, but the last two months (May and June) happened to fall on the same day. She's under the impression that once you are on Triphasil, your period is going to be completely regular. Is that true? She's also done a lot of travelling in a vehicle lately, and she has moved back in with her parents for the summer. Could this affect the timing? I need to know what the chances are of her being pg. If it helps, she 19 and was supposed to start on Thursday and today is Saturday. Thanks.

I am not too familar with Triphasil, but I can tell you that I am reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and it says that traveling, moving, that sort of thing can cause you to be late. Being stressed about your period should not really delay it. That is a myth. Maybe that is the case, she has just had alot going on. If she is worried about it I suggest doing a home pregnancy test or visiting her Dr. I wish I could be of more help. However, it is POSSIBLE to become pg on the pill. Good Luck! Shannon

I have never heard of triphasil, but it very well could be the travel, and women often change their cycle, often for no apparent reason, it's just the way her body is functioning at this point. It also works that way with a woman's actual cycle; for instance, some women may start their period a day later each month for a few months, and then it decreases. If she still hasn't started in a week, then get her a pregnancy test, but it is most likely due to the traveling and her body changing.

Thanks alot for the feedback it made me feel a little better. It's just that we're not in the best position to have a child, although a wonderful thing, and it's very frustrating to know that we've taken almost absolute care in the matter. Aside from abstinence that is, which we practiced for 2 and a half years. In January we decided we were ready to fully show love for each, while still being careful. The worst thing right now on top of all this is that we're 10 hrs. apart, and she more worried than I am. I feel quite helpless to comfort her. All I can provide is words of wisdom, and I thank you all for giving me some.-
