What can I do?

What can I do?

My daugter has Kidney reflux..She was diagnosed with it when she was about 8 or 9 months old.Shes almost 2 in 2 1/2 weeks.. and she still has it.I am at the ER or the ped. clinic atleast 1 every 2 weeks.I am about to pull my hair out of my head. There is only certain antibotics she can have because shes got a pennicillin (penicillin) (if i spelled that right) alergy (allergy).I was told they cant do surgry untill shes 3. but I dont want her to have surgry. what mom would want there baby to have that?? I dont know what else to do. One antibotic (antibiotic) gives her welps up her leg and around the diaper area.. and the 2nd antibotic (antibiotic) causes fungi on her diaper area..any advice? thanks Brandy!

my niece will be 2 in sept. and was diagnosed with the same thing about 8 months ago.  my sister has had to put her on a strict diet, i.e. limiting juices and things like chocolate.  her nephrologist also put her on maintenance antibiotics, she takes one type during the summer/fall months, and another during the winter/spring months.  i know at least one, if not both, are able to be taken by someone allergic to pcn.  i think my niece is allergic to it.  my niece gets REALLY bad rashes after she drinks too much juice, and sometimes after the antibiotics.  my sister incorporates yogurt into her diet, and occasionally puts plain flavored yogurt directly on her little hind end.  she also has this stuff called "butt cream" she got from her dr.
one thing to know with the reflux is as you daughter is potty trained, when she tells you she has to go SHE HAS TO GO.  my sister also has it, my niece inherited it from her, and if she doesn't go pee right away she starts to throw up.  my niece isn't potty trained yet so we don't know how that will do for her.
are you seeing a nephrologist?  if not tell your pediatrician you need a refferal.  good luck, i hope i was able to help a little.

It's very important for you to follow up with your nephrolgist and follow instructions. I am so sorry you have to deal with this. It's so hard to see a child sick. But a surgery will be better than problems later on in life. I am a diaylsis social worker, and although very rare, there are a few instances were patients are on dialysis because there parents never knew the child had this condition, or ignored it, and caused kidney failure. Because you are aware and take care of your daughter Im sure she'll be fine, but do not ignore recommedations because of your fear of surgery. Children bounce back way quicker than adults and they don't remember any of it. Good Luck!!!
