What did your baby's belly button look like right after the umbilical cord fell off?

my daughter is 7 weeks old and her umbilical cord just fell off yesterday.. but her belly button looks weird.. its got dried blood in there but also some green looking stuff .. how did your newborns look right after?

My ds had some dried blood in it.  I would just wipe around it for the next few weeks.  She may have an infection if it is green.  You might want to call you Ped and see if it is normal.

I dont remember if I saw green or not, but I do remember thinking it looked infected, but it was not and after a few days he looked like he had a normal belly button.

7 weeks??? or did you mean 7 days old., my DD's fell off at 10 days old

The cord should not have taken 7 weeks to fall off.  That doesn't seem right.  Does her belly button have a foul odor?  Is there any oozing??

The green might be a sign of infection.  I would get a q-tip soaked with rubbing alcohol and clean it at least twice a day.  If it doesn't get better within a couple days, you might want to take her into the doctor. Something just doesn't sound right.

I agree w/ using the alcohol.  May want to put some Neosporin on it after the alcohol also.

7 weeks? WOW, my kids fell off in the second week. I would call the dr.

yea it took 7 weeks for it to fall off... i did call her ped. and she told me if it didnt fall off by the time she turned 2 months old they would take it off.. but it just fell off.. i cleaned it out with warm water and it looks ok now
