Sounds like thrush to me.  You will need a prescription for it and it will turn his tongue purple.  Definitely get into the doctor.

There's all kinds of info on THRUSH on the net but here is one link http://www.breastfeed-essentials.com/thrush.html
it definitely needs to be treated and my baby had it too.

Even though nothing came off, it could be thrush.  What kind of medication is he taking?  I had thrush during this pregnancy and can tell you it is painful in the mouth.  I thought I had burnt my tongue on a hot cup of soup, but it never got better.  It was all I could do to put food in my mouth for a couple of weeks.  Is he eating/nursing ok?  You might want to have the Dr. see him, especially if you feel it is affecting his behavior, eating or otherwise.

I know they describe thrush as cottage cheese curds in appearance.  Mine didn't look like that, but adults eat and drink stuff with color that may have changed the appearance of mine.

Shelly

It's likely thrush, which is just basically a yeast infection.  Your baby can get it breastfeeding or bottle feeding, (alhtough if you are breastfeeding, you will usually get it on your nipples as well).  It's harmless, but uncomfortable/painful.  They usually treat it with an oral nystatin.  All of my kids have gone through it.

no thrush is not exclusive to breastfed babies.  you can even get it from a pacifier

Before you panic, it's probably just a coating on his tongue from drinking his bottle. This does happen. He would be really cranky with thrush mouth because it's very painful for them to drink their bottles. Is he having any trouble drinking? or sucking on his soother?

I will agree with the rest of the group, it definitely sounds like thrush. And it is very important to give your babies good oral care, which at this point is a good swab with a wet cloth. This includes the gums, tongue and all around.

My little one had thrush 4 times when she was newborn.  Her thrush looked like white spots on her tongue, lips, inside of her cheeks, and gums.  It looked quite a bit different than milk-tongue, so if you have noticed his tongue after he has eaten before, you should be able to tell a difference if it is thrush.  If it is, and I am sure the dr will tell you this, make sure you boil all pacifiers and bottles after you start the meds--if not, it is very likely that he will be recontaminated.  Mine didn't even take a pacifier or bottle, and she still got it 4 times.  So if it comes back, just keep the dr informed and it will eventually go away!
Hang in there--after about 3 months things should start to get easier for you!  That was when there was a big turn around in my precious one--she was an extremely difficult baby but is a different baby now.

I WOULD THINK THRUSH FIRST ,AND ALOT OF CHILDREN GET IT WHEN ON A ANTIBIOTIC AS WE WOMEN GET A YEAST INFECTION WHEN ON A ANTIBIOTIC, ID CALL THE DR AND LET HIM KNOW, BUT MY SON DID HAVE IT BEFORE..
