What to pack in baby bag?

by surfergirl602, Jan 05, 2007 12:00AM
I think that I'm going to start getting things together for a baby bag as I'm 32 weeks now.

What sort of items are you glad you included?
It's been four years since I did this last - any new modern tips out there?

I have been thinking about the same thing. I am 30 weeks Monday...but like to plan ahead!
With my DD I never got the chance to have a bag packed since she came 4 weeks early, I was stuck in the hospital in their lovely gowns for 4 days and didn't have any comforts from home.
I don't want to do that again!
I am planning on bringing some cute and comfey PJ's...try to look a little better in those 1st. pictures everyone takes.
My Pillow, and some slipper socks!
Tooth brush and that kind of stuff.
Phone list to call people.
Camera
Since this is my 2nd I have a gift to give to my DD from the new baby so I am going to pack that also. I got one for her to give to her new baby brother when he comes also, it is the same stuffed animal for both of them!
Thats all I have planned for now....missing anything? I am sure I am..lol :)

I am also having a big sister party for my DD the night before I go in for my c-section, I got her some fun little things that she can bring to the hospital to play with and be entertained!
I am going to just have the grandparents over for that!
She will be 4 months shy of 3 years old.

Good luck to everyone :)

I am bringing pjs, brush, toothbrush, books, nursing pads and bras, new undies, lotion... I think thats about it.  DH will bring the babies first outfit, and mine, the day we discharge.

My cousin packed her own pillows for her and DH since the hospital ones are hard (used an old pillow case though)

Don't bring new undies.  Wait until you are done bleeding.  I bought new undies for when I was done, and that was a nice treat to have something for me when I was getting back to myslef.  I know I reuined about four of five pairs when I got home from the hospital.  While in the hospital I wore there little fishnet undies the first two days.  On the day i was going home I put my own on.  Also make sure you bring socks with you that you won't mind getting ruined if you gush all over them.  I brought two or three pairs of bark blue slipper socks with me.  I also brought my nursing pj's with me.  Much easier for those night time feedings.  Bring a magazine to read if you are having an uneventful labor.

I always bring them because I just have a phobia about having raw stiches with used ones.  I know they get ruined - its just my personal insanity:):)

The one thing i am glad i brought was lots and of undies i ended up peeing myself like 20 times LOL make sure you have alot of those and not new ones they will just get ruined anyway.

my underwear never got ruined that i remember?? But, i had a c-section. I still bled. Is it a vagional thing?

by mandymoo1983, Jan 05, 2007 12:00AM
yes your undies will certainly get wrecked just take old ones its like niagrea falls down there after youve givin birth and blood is not easy to remove from your undies lol goodluck

Had to laugh at the comment about peeing yourself.  I know so many women do that and nobody ever tells you about it.  I had no feeling for a couple of days and had a hard time knowing when to pee, so I would just have to go in and try to go all of the time, and then there were times I would start to go and have no idea till it was too late.  I guess as your uterus is contracting down it can cause some pressure on your bladder.  I also bled a lot, but maybe it is a vaginal delivery thing, I had to use those huge pads they give you at the hospital and was so glad they did, no way my regular or even overnites could have covered all of that.  I also wore the hospital pj's because of all of the bleeding.  Good idea to pack your bag early though, just remember that you wil be staring at it for weeks till it's time, and that gets a little frustrating too.  Good luck!
