When to stop the formula?

When to stop the formula?

Rhett is turning one Saturday. I know with my last child (13 years ago) I stopped her from the formula about age one.  I feel weird about cutting him off cold turkey and switching him to regualr milk. I am not in a hurry to get rid of the bottle so that is not my concern.  I just would like to know how others transitioned from formula to milk. Also, let me know some of the eating, bottle routines you have going.

Thanks.

I started transitioning my daughter over to whole milk when she turned one. I would mix formula with whole milk, about half whole milk and half formula at first and then gradually decreased the amount of formula. Good luck!

Happy Birthday Rhett - a year ago your mommy and I were both eagerly awaiting our little ones - Abby was born on day after you on Leap Day!

Our pediatrician told us at the nine month appt to wait until close to her birthday and then start slowing transitioning her to milk - he suggested putting milk only in her sippy cup - we switched her slowly over to the Enfamil toddler formula and we add milk to the formula - she's now at about three ounces of milk in each bottle - we go next week for the one year appt and we'll see what he says then

Thanks for the advice. I think I will do a 1/2 formula bottle, and 1/2 milk bottle for a while.

I started doing the half formula and half milk thing a couple of weeks prior to his first bday.  I didn't know how fast they would move him up in his daycare, so I wanted to make sure he was ready.

Right now, he gets a formula/milk bottle in the morning (usually 7 or 8 oz)... three sippy cups of milk throughout the day.  Sippy cup with water from about 5 to 7 pm and then a formula/milk bottle at 7 pm.

give a big hug and a kiss to that little bday sweetie for me.

Our ped said it was OK to start getting Izzy used to whole milk at her 9 month appt.  So we started slowly.  I never really mixed them - just gave her sips here and there.  She had no problem transitioning.  I think the whole milk is still pretty rich.  I do warm it for her sometimes though but dh never does.
It varies but she generally has 8oz from bottle upon waking.  4oz from bottle from dad after morning nap/with lunch.  4oz from sippy during day with me.  4oz at dinner from glass and 4oz at bedtime from bottle.
Yes, also give Rhett a squeeze from me too!!  I hope he has a very happy birthday on Saturday!!!!  What are you planning???
