When to take out belly button ring...

When to take out belly button ring...

I have had my belly button pierced for 5 years.  My husband and I have just started trying to get pregnant.  I am wondering when I should take out my belly button ring?  I don't want a big scar because I waited till I got pregnant.  I was wondering what others have experienced?

Hey there,
Good luck on trying to conceive.. I myself have been trying for awhile but stopped to take a break.. We arent preventing it.. but we arent "trying" anymore.. You dont have to take your ring out till you just start to show.. my best friend didnt take hers out till she was almost 4 months and just starting to show.. It depends I guess.. I would say around 10-12 weeks.. I got pregnant last year and didnt take mine out.. I also lost my baby at 8 weeks so I wasnt showing or anything.. Anyways.. I wouldnt worry about it till I got pregnant.. But your fine with it in and trying it wont hurt anything.. I hope you the best.. Good luck on trying to conceive.. Keep me updated!! Take care **HUGSS**

Hi! I am not sure yet where to get them, but they make flex rings that will actually stretch with your growing belly. I am 17 weeks and I just took mine out a couple of weeks ago. Many women say that the hole doesn't close. I am afraid that it will stretch though. Good Luck! Shannon

FYI - when the ring is removed the hole does close but the scar remains (making it appear as though the hole hasn't closed). Not sure about stretch marks though.

Actually, people that I know have put them back into the hole, so it didn't close. Shannon

Hi, I'm only 11 weeks and already took mine out but it was more because I just had so much trouble with it healing......
It closed within a few hours........
However one of my friends took hers out at about 7 months and had no trouble putting it back in after the baby was born.
My doctor told me to take it out when it got uncomfortable.....
My tattoo parlor told me that they have seen girls 9 months along come in and the ring was sticking straight out and they still had it in. It is just up to you and if it causes you any trouble or pain, HOWEVER!!!!!! they will more than likely make you take it out for delivery.
Hugs,
Vikki

Be careful though, not everyone has such a good story : ) I had my done for close to 8 years and when I was pg with my son, I took it out kind of early (I had tons of u/s's done) and I wound up with a stretchmark right through it!! So half the hole closed (bottom hole) but the top is still open!

Genetics determine whether you will have to deal with stretchmarks, but having an existing "scar" such as a belly button piercing is like a target for those dastardly stretchmarks : )

Good luck!!

Good Luck First of all! I just wanted to let you know I am 5.5 months now and I still have my ring in. I talked to my doctor about taking it out and she said that alot of her patients are 8-9 months and still have theres in so in will pretty much determine how your body will react.Good Luck!!

i think it all depends on your body. My sister took hers out when she was about 5mos pregnant and her baby girl is 2mos old now and my sister belly button looks terrible she has a huge hold on the top part so i guess it just depends on the person..

I already took mine out - I did so at about 13 weeks as I am pregnant with twins and my belly was getting huge and it was getting caught on everything.  Good luck.

I took my ring out right after finding out I was pregnant. I am 5 1/2 months now and I put it back in. The only thing that has changed it my piercing itself moved a little higher. I have been looking info up this for awhile. No matter what it's still a hole, and will still cause the damage it would whether you wear your ring or not.

Maternity belly rings for pregnancy are available at www.maternitypiercings.com
They have a good selection. The rings are 2 inches long, but you can cut them shorter to fit, and then thread the end back on.  ~J

I had my ring in until I went into labor (was induced).  They made me take it out during delivery but i put it back in right after I deliveried my son. I had to change from a 1/2 hoop to a straighter ring because of how big I was.  I think I used a retainer for a little while but it fell out during bedtime one night. The doctor always recommend you take them out but you don't have to as long as they don't bother you. Good Luck everyone! I am 17 wks 6 dys with my second one.  My doctor suggested I get a pregnancy ring....Google Pregnancy belly rings. You will find all types and places. Or see your local tattoo and piercing parlor. :)

hey.  i had my belly button pierced for years before i fell pregnant.  i went and saw the tattooist who had done it who said that even though i wouldnt show and stretch yet he wouldnt recomend taking it out when you are pregnant at all even right at the beginning as it isnt enough time for the hole to heal properly and as your body does start to stretch, so will the hole and will look horrid!  youshould always take it out quite a while before concieving if you want it removed without being left with a big hole! lol  so he said i could keep my normal ring in if it didnt bother me, but if i got too big and it started to hurt or anything to go back to him and he had special plastic rings that he gives to pregnant women as they bend and stretch with the expanding body! i was lucky i was always able to keep my normal ring through out both pregnancies!  good luck!

Go to bodycandy.com
I get my body jewelry from there and while looking for belly rings I've seen pregnancy flex rings. They are flexible and much longer than normal belly rings. I have heard however that even with the pregnancy flex rings your growing belly may push the ring out.

I am currently 22 weeks and still have my belly ring in. This is my second pregnancy, and with my first I kept it in the entire pregnancy with no problems. The only thing I hated was that you could frequently see the ring through my shirt. But my belly button never popped out, so that may make a difference. With this pregnancy, my doctor recommended the maternity belly rings, so I am going to order one of those and change it out before I am too big and it gets difficult to change out. Good luck!  -Dawn

Some woman decide to leave it in up until the delivery, others decide to switch to more comfortable ring, and others decide to take it out when their belly becomes more firm to be more comfortable. It's really a personal choice.

I think its ridiculous that you guys are more worried about your belly ring closing up after how much pain u went through to get it pierced and what not!
Hello!! is that more important that having your baby? I am 11 weeks along and right when i found out i was pregnant i took my belly ring off & is hoping it will heal. If you guys are more worried about the pain it took to pierce ur belly button then don't even bother having a baby. It is more painful than anything in comparison..
