When will I be able to start trying again?

When will I be able to start trying again?

This past week I had a miscarriage.  Before seeing my doctor, I searched online and most websites said to wait until trying again after 3 normal menstrual cycles.  When I talked to my doctor, she said to wait until after 1 menstrual cycle, but we would have to wait until my HCG levels went to 5 or below.  The problem is, how do I know when the levels have gone down?  Is there anyway to help the HCG levels go down?  I know I will be taking blood tests periodically to monitor the HCG level, but I want to know as soon as I can start trying again.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hcg levels go down on their own, honey. Try to not worry too much; you need to be relaxed and calm for better chances of conceiving. Your doctor will let you know, from your blood tests, when your hcg levels have gone down. I know it's hard, but just try to be patient and keep your faith. Good luck and I'm very sorry for your recent loss.

No way to get those hcg levels to go down faster.   My doctor told me that I have to wait one cycle after my hcg levels get down to 0.  My hcg levels were monitored as they decreased.   It seemed to take about two weeks to get to zero when my hcg was about 800 or 900.  But in another pregnancy i went from 16,000 hcg to 0 in about a week.  So who knows.   Everybody's different.  If you were about 6 weeks when you miscarried...expect a couple of weeks for you hcg to go down.  You will get your period when hcg goes down to 0.   Then you have to wait one cycle, then you can try again.   Although technically once you get your AF you can get pregnant right away.  I hear docs don't like it because then don't have a LMP.

Hi
I have suffered a mc yesterday 26th I was 4.5 weeks pregnant  . My partner and i have decided to try asap as we have been ttc for nearly 2 yrs and it didnt work so why should we wait ? we have nothing to lose and everything to gain ....in just one week we find out we are pg then lose it !...i know everything happens for a reason but its a cruel world . I have read alot of stories of women that have mc under 12 weeks and have managed to get pg within 2 weeks of the mc as after mc it makes some ppl really fertile . I think i can continue to be upset and dwell on my lose or move on , and i choose the latter its kinda my way of being strong and coping through this i think. Ob im going to wait until my levels have lowered and my bleed stops and i know our beans gone completely but then we are not planning on waiting any longer.

Iggles,

This was my first pregnancy, so I don't know alot.  However, on all my research on the web and talking to my doctor, they said that you MUST use some type of birth control until after your first period and after your HCG levels are all the way down.  They all said that your body is not ready for another pregnancy until then and you will most likely miscarry again.  I promise I am not trying to be a know-it-all, but I think you should wait until your body is ready...  I wish you good luck.

ames28, I miscarried on January 1, and my hCG levels today are in the 200s.  Every blood test (there have been 4) shows a lower number, but it can sometimes take a little while.

iggles, besides the risk of your body being unready for another pregnancy, I don't recommend trying until you know your levels are 0, since if you did (try) sooner and then got an hCG level on a blood test, you won't know if you are pregnant or if your hCG levels are left over from the miscarriage.

I WILL tell you that i had a D&E to end a pregnancy tat had stopped developing instead of waitin to have a MC.. and i got preggo 2 weeks later and we are now 35 weeks preggo with a healty baby boy. so you dont have to wait . as my dr told me thay only tell you to wait cause it is better for them to have dates to go by in which i never got period after losing the one baby so i was a diffcult patient cause i had no dates to go by but thats what sonograms are for... so good liuck to you and im sorry to hear about the lost......

No, it was my second pregnancy.

michelle_rusty, if a person has a D&C or D&E, except for letting the lining of the uterus recover, there is no particular reason to wait.  However, these ladies are talking about natural miscarriage, which can leave tissue behind or for other reasons take a while to clear out of the body.  With a D&E, you pretty much know the uterus is all emptied out.  So the advice "you don't have to wait" applies more when a person has had an intervention than when it happens naturally.  The main thing is to be guided by the hCG levels.  Once they are less than 5, a person is in the clear as far as not being confused from one pregnancy to another.

sorry for everyones loss ok. im incline to agree with michelle_rusty on her statement ok, a nurse told me not to even worry about hcg levels they only tell u to wait so u deal with your loss first emotionaly, and i thinks it very important to deal with it but if u r ready to move on go for IT if u r ready. so she gave me the light more or less to go for it providing i was dealing with my loss n not just brushing it off. i had a d n c 22nd april 10. forget hcg and let nature take its course and dont place to much presure on your self for it to happen straight away ok ........good luck n share with us your progress please. xxxtam
