Who Cared for Your Kids When You Had Your Baby?

I am trying to get things sorted out for when we have baby #2 and I was wondering what people usually did with their other children when they have another baby?  Did dad stay home, did he stay in the hospital with you?  I am trying to think of alternates than DS going to stay with my mother because... there are just issues there.  I'd like it if DH could stay with me in the hospital like he did when DS was born but then I don't know who to ask to stay at my home.

What did you do?

I hear your pain and I am going though the same stress right now.  I will have a C-section on June 1st and have a 2 year old.  It is very hard.  I have a feeling I will be alone most of the time in the hospital.  My parents will do most of the watching, which is hard because I needed them there for me the first time to help me.  My fiance will be with me most of the time.

My dd was 19 months when ds was born. I had DH stay home w/her. There is no reason for him to be there (at least my hospital) where it would be uncomfortable to sleep. Also, it's good that it's just the baby and myself while they basically cluster feed and keep me up all night anyways. Even when dd was born I still sent DH home to get some good sleep and just come back in the am. I also have c-sections.  IF the possibility came up that I got a suite (fat chance) I would have my mom & dad keep the kids for this next baby. Maybe I would allow DH to stay w/me, ha ha... At least the suite is equipped for a nice night sleep for DH's to stay!

i plan on having DH stay with me at least the first 2 nights. It would be just too much for me to do on my own. I am also having another c-section. Luckily, i'm having this baby during the summer, so i have lots of family who can stay at my house with dd. In addition to my mom, i have the option of my SIL, my little sister, other siblings, my best friend, etc... The hospital where I am giving birth has all private suites with a place for hubbies to sleep, so there's no excuse :) They really encourage the family staying together.

I will also be giving birth in a suite, so there will be a place for DH.  It sounds like most people will have someone come stay with their kids instead of sending them to stay with someone else so that makes me feel better for what I was leaning towards.  I too think I would want DH with me - I had to have a c-section with DS and while I am going to try for a VBAC just in case... I remember how awful that was!  Thanks for your responses!
