Who has had strep b test?

Who has had strep b test?

Hi everyone, just a quick question.  I went to the dr today for my 35 week checkup, and she said since I was one day shy of 35 weeks, she would wait until my next appt in two weeks to do my strep b test.  Does this sound weird to anyone else?  It seems like it would be better to do it one day early than two weeks late.  When did all of your dr's give you a strep b test?  I'm just worried that I could go into labor in the next two weeks and the test won't be done (slim chance I know but I like to find things to worry about :)

Yeah, my doctor always told me if I went into labor early and wasn't tested for Group B Strep they would automatically give me an antibotic (antibiotic).  Don't worry yourself they will take care of it.

the closer to the time you deliver the more accurate the results.  your fine to wait

My Dr. told me yesterday that it is better to do it later than sooner, becuse it could come up negative if you do it too early and it would give it more time to develop. My concern was that it was positive with my first son and negative with this one. He said that it wasn't a concern and with doing the test at 36 weeks I should be fine.

I had strep b and after doing some reading about it decided not to take the antibiotics. It's been a while since I read the all the info but it said something like you don't need them unless your water breaks and it's more than 24 hours till you deliver. (your dr may not know this as the protocal changed from giving them to everybody to just some under certain conditions) There are some real serious complications from those antibiotics so read about it. Try http://www.mothering.com/ and do a search on it. I'm not saying Don't take them, but at least make an informed decision.

Strep is a naturally occuring bacteria in the vagina and rectum and not an infection. If you do not have problems with reocurring bladder infections it means that your body is handling the bacteria fine. The ability to handle it is passed through the placenta to the baby. Full term babies are least likely to be affected by it. 1/3 of women tested had it so too many women/babies are getting pumped full of antibiotics. It is creating an antibiotic resistant strep b. What's taking over now because of it is ecoli which is much more dangerous and babies are dying from that. So using antibiotics at deliver is not some benign solution. Know your choices:) READ!
