Why wait i6 days post ET before taking an HPT?

Hello,
I am in the midst of the 2ww following a first round of ivf. My clinic has told me I must wait 16 days post my 5dt before taking an HPT. I have read that the hCG trigger shot should be out of your system after 10 days so why do they advise us to wait so long before testing?  I'd love to know the reason for it.

They just want to make sure that the embryo has had sufficient time to produce enough hcg that you don't get a false negative on the test.  You can test earlier, but as in any pregnancy the risk is that you are testing too soon, and even though the waiting is a killer it can bring you unnecessary disappoint to see a negative test when in fact you are pregnant.

Good luck!

Test all you want, it just might not be accurate yet.  My doc told me that they sometimes get an hCG reading of under 50 on day 14 after transfer because sometimes (not always) the embryo floats around a long time before implanting.  16 days post a 5 day transfer is a long time, I'd test and hope for reliable results by the 14th day after the transfer.
