My middle son is a skinny boy too. He just turned three and is only 32 lbs but is nearly 40 inches tall. He was a big baby when he was nursing, but at 15 months when he weaned, he seemed to slow down dramtically on his growth. He is full of energy and rarely sits still for long. But he eats like a bird. Some days he will eat a ton, but most others he will pick at what he is given. I have tried the pediasure to no avail, tried a variety of different tips and tricks to get him to eat and have just finally come to the realization that he knows when he is hungry. Kids have a way of self regulating and taking in what they need. While he isn't gaining weight at a rate I would be happy with, he is full of energy and does eat when he is hungry, just not as much as his older brother.

It wouldn't hurt to bring it to your pediatrician's attention. Perhaps there is something underlying that needs to be evaluated. In the meantime, make sure that what he does eat is giving him the maximum amount of nutrients. Keep giving him whole milk, don't cut the fat in the foods you give him, and make sure he is getting enough fruits/veggies and protein.

Good luck!

I can relate my son is 25 1/2 months and is was only 22 pounds at his 1 year check up. he too will go days without eating much then all of  a sudden he will eat a lot for a day or so. he now loves peanut butter and jelly which he eats a lot of as well as chicken nuggets . he just started to like brocoli (isn't that great) pancakes are a big hit also. but he really doesn't eat any meats besides his chicken nuggets. i try he just spits them out. oh one other thing that he likes to snack on is the oatmeal on the go i figure that's pretty good for him. as far as weight the dr wants to just see him gaining a pound or so as long as he isn't losing she isn't too concerned. when he was younger he was in the 20th% and she told me that boys will tend to make a dip down and then eventually come back up. he has been in the 3rd % for some time now. i wouldn't worry if your dr isn't. ( i know it's easier said than done because i just finally started not to really worry.)

My son will eat alot one day then go days with hardly eating anything.  We keep offering him a variety of fruits, veggies, and meat.  The Dr has told me to let him eat when he is hungry and not to force him to eat when not.  Forcing kids to eat and finish everything on there plate can often attribute to obesity.
He won't starve himself.  If he's hungry enough he will eat the nutritious food you give him.  One thing we do it offer ranch dressing with his food for dipping.
He loves it.
