Worrying

I was diagnosed w/thalassemia minor 10 yrs ago prior to fibriod removal surgery. I have experienced most of the symptoms described (fatigue, restless leg syndrome,heavy menstrual flow) & also took iron daily. I was also told there weren't any symptoms for it besides anemia. I now have a 3 y/o son who experienced a nosebleed that lasted over 8 hours that I could not stop. I took him to an immediate care facility where the MD told me all kids have nosebleeds mother,don't worry. After I took him to his regular MD,who after I described how much & how long he bled, sent us to the hospital for a CBC. Needless to say,he'd lost so much blood,he needed a transfusion.We were in pediatric ICU for 3 days. After his discharge, we've been going to a pediatric hematologist to find out what's going on. At first, he thought my son had hemophilia, but was unsure despite monthly labs & iron prescribed for my son didn't decrease his bleeding time. Now he's ordered tests for lupus. So I am now worried that my thalassemia could have caused this bleeding/clotting disorder in my son. Does anyone have any info related to this so I can find out what's happening w/my son?

I found this information for you.  Do you have beta thalassemia minor, or alpha?  I don't know much about it, beyond the obvious connection between the thalassemias and anemia.
