What kind of diapers are you using? Wipes? My bet is it is one of those two. Pampers anything or Luvs will cause serious rashes in some babies. My two older boys got bleeding rashes from Pampers and Luvs (makes sense, they are the same company)
Try Target, Kroger, or Safeway brand. They are perfume free. Same with Huggies Supreme for the diapers. As for wipes, try Kroger or Kirkland brand. They are perfume free as well and very gentleGentle laxative. Or you could go wipe free and use a solution of baking soda and water in your sterilized peri bottle from deliveryC-section Delivery presentations Infant care following delivery. Place a towel under Aspen, spray her with the solution and either gently pat dry or let her air dry.
My guess is the diapers, some of those things are so bad for their skin.
Jacob doesn't have a rash yet but something I've noticed that worries me is the pampers swaddler brand has a mesh material that is often stuck to his bottom. It is like his skin pushes through the mesh holes. It seems like this could cause a problem. I use ointment sometimes as a preventative measure. It makes the mesh not stick to his bottom. I also pat his bottom dry with a wash cloth after I use the wet wipe.
My doctor swears by Triple Paste...have you tried that? It's expensive but it works great. And letting her air dry is always great! (are you BF? could it be something in your milk or something may not be aggreeing with her?) Also, do you use Dreft? My best friends son was getting a rash just from her using a towel to dry him off after a bath and once she quit using dreft it all went away.
i also agrre that its probably the diapers.we tried all the name brand and they still had a rash,we went to the chepa.walmart brand and rash went away.
Well... we use cloth diapers here in our house and rarely have diaper rashes. It could be the diapers but I would look at what is going in her mouth. Are you breastfeeding? Keep a food journal for your self with a diaper rash journal for her. Are there any correlations between what your are eating and when her rash is bad? Is she on formula, it could be an intolerance to the formula.
try some monistate cream...get the cream that you have to fill the applicators with so you can just use the cream. It clears the rash right up...also, i would try changing brands of diapers and wipes like the above posters have stated.
I sent my boyfriend out to go get some new diapers and to get some baking soda so I can try that mix. I'm not using dreft at all just regular tide for all her clothes. I am breastfeeding but I haven't eaten anything strange I don't believe.
My son couldn't handle any brand except for huggies it would cause a rash that would bleed, to clear it up I used Triple Paste it is expensive but works wonders. Best of luck.
I go through the exact same thing you do with my dd. She's on again, off again and even a perscription of Nystatin from the doctor didnt help. I've tried, A&D, Desitin, Bourdeaux (sp?) butt paste, Aquaphor (recommended by her dr) and none of it really worked. I did a few things to stop it and right now, it's ok. Her dad stood with her yesterday and when I got home, I noticed she was a little red. He didnt change her so frequently. Men!
Ok so, first, I moved her to the next size up. If your baby is able to wear the next size up in pampers, then try it because they have more absorbancy. Next, Try non scented wipies. I bought Aveeno diaper rash cream and that seems to really work on her. Nothing else has worked so well. Also, I put wee wee pads (kinda like when you train a puppy) on our bed when she gets out of the bath and let her area air dry. That helps. I use playskool brand on her for now. They seem to absorb much more than cruisers. I hate cruisers.
I think that some babies just have more acidic urine than average. Good luck :)
i know thia might be far fetched but i used o get really bad diaper rashes and my mom would switch from cloth diapers to normal diapers...she was told tenderflake lard would work she tried it and never used anything else...ds has had one bad diaper rash nothing cleared it...i tried it and it worked...ive told friends about it too and they have treied it and it worked as well...i agree with it in serious cases..when i was baby i would bleed as to how bad it was...so its your choice all in all..it is your baby but could be worth a try:) good luck
I just wanted to say that DD had diaper rash alot. We quit using wipes and started using a wet washcloth and she has never had diaper rash since. she is 7 months old and everywhere we go I carry several baby rags and a bottle of water. Also if you use washcloths and water you dont have to spend the money on wipes:) just to add something else I love desitin overnight. when DD would get a rash it was the only thing that cleared it up.
my kids were prone to bad rashes and when nothing else worked (after trying changing diapers/wipes/etc) I would change as often as possible and at EVERY Change...use the new diaper to FAN the area til it was dry, then I applied a generous helping of vaseline (the kind in a tube not the canister it's not as sticky and is easier to clean off) then I applied a good layer of pure corn starch...like you get in the grocery store...not the powder with corn starch...just plan ol out the box corn starch...
The drying helps to keep the area from chapping.
The vaseline acts as a barrier
The corn starch helps to counter act the acidity in the urine and even from the stools, especially if diarhea (diarrhea) is involved.
Something else you can try is, don't know if anyone else suggested it...BAG BALM...it's made for cows utters but works REALLY good on dry, chapped, raw skin. BUT it's a little harder to wipe off becuase it's so thick.
