Yeast Infection question at 27 weeks

by thendricks, Dec 18, 2006 12:00AM
I have a yeast infection, no itch or burning just a heavy discharge, the doctor had to look under the scope to make sure it wasn't just a discharge, I'm 27 weeks and 3 days and I'm worried over taking the medication!!! Can a yeast infection cause harm to the baby or pregnancy??? I'm gonna start the over the counter meds tonight but I think I've had the infection for several weeks, can this harm the baby? Thanks and baby blessings to all...

Hi StephD, how did it go with your son at the GI???

Hey girl!!  Well as far as the yeast infection goes, if you dont take anything I think yea it can be harmful.  My cousin had some sort of infection and lost her baby.  She didnt even know she had the infection!!  Kinda scary huh?  How did you know to tell the dr that you were having problems since there was no itch or anything?  What made him check your discharge?  Just cause you were having alot?  Sorry for all the questions.  Anyway - I take DS tomorrow for his tests.  He has to fast after midnite tonite!  He is only allowed to have enough water to wet his whistle in the morning!  That is gonna be so hard.  I keep telling him that he is going to have a good drink tomorrow that will taste like a milkshake.  The hardest thing for me will be not being able to be in there with him!!!  :(

Hey there, I was in the same boat as you from the very beginning of my pregnancy until about 22 weeks. I am now 37 weeks. i can honestly say I was paranoid too to take the over the counter meds but was assured it would not harm the baby. I had to treat myself 4 times with the meds because I kept getting recurring infections. I will tell you the 3 days did not work for me. I was told most women when pregnant do better with the 7 day because it is not as strong and will not irritate you. finally I was put on a prescription yeast cream that was 7 days and it finally after a few months, cleared up and I have not had a problem since and baby is just fine. So I hope yours clears up the first try. Good luck to you!

The doctor will not prescribe/recommend anything that will harm your baby.  It's probably more harmful to leave it untreated.

Good luck!

With my second son I had several yeast infections & I had no problems w/the medicines. I agree w/comments above, the doc won't prescribe something harmful, plus you will feel SO much better!
