Zoloft after miscarriage

by Fallmom, Mar 12, 2006 12:00AM
I am recovering from a miscarriage on Feb. 11, I was 11 weeks and passed the dear little one at home.  2 weeks later I had to have a minor D&C to remove a stubborn piece of tissue. I also lost a baby at 16 weeks in September.  I lost 2 other a few years back.  I do have 4 boys, all healthy but was hoping for one more.  i was wondering if any of you have taken Zoloft to get over the hump of depression that follows the loss.  After the last on in Sept, I did see a counselor and felt pretty good by about 3 mos.  The 2 others, I just did the healing work on my own.  FOr some reason, this seems unbearable and I am having a hard time.  I am impatient to feel myself again.  I hate drugs, but wondering if I should do Zoloft for a short term.  Are there any side effects?  I am afraid of not being able to get off it.  Thanks.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss and I completely understand how you are feeling.  I just had a d&c this past week and want to move on.  I though about seeing someone and possibly taking medication but I think I still need some time to heal.  I wish that I could get over this hump quickly and move on with my life.  Sorry I can't be any help about the meds., I just wanted to share that I feel the pain.

I took Wellbutring.  They did try the Zoloft but it did now work well for me.  Everyone is different where meds are concerned so don't use others' experiences on a particular medication to determine if it's right for you.  I can tell you that it definately helped take the edge off the miscarriage.  I was still sad but I was able to function again.  I didn't have as hard of a time after my miscarriage in 2004 but the miscarriage in Sept. 2005 was devistating for me.  The first couple of months, I was numb but after that I couldn't function.  It's definately worth a try to help get you over the hump.  You don't have to take it forever.

Just try to take care of yourself whatever you decide.

Good luck.

Hello,

im a psychologist and would suggest going to therapy again.  often times meds mask the real things you are dealing with.  zoloft takes soem time to feel the effects.  unlike zanax which you feel right away.  you will not feel immediate relief from the zoloft.  then you will have to wean yourself off of it again.  if you are looking at being pregnant again in the near future you have to be off of it.  i had a mc in dec and went to therapy right away.  it really helped.  we are all different and react differently to situations but i would start with a therapist b/c then they can monitor you and see if you are truly a candidate for meds.
good luck.
