Does anyone know if it's safe to take Zoloft while pregnant?

I was taking Zoloft when I first got pregnant with my daughter,  I stopped when I found out I was pregnant, and she turned out fine.  Your hormones and moods are all over the place with pregnancy, so I don't think Zoloft will work too well anyway.  It may not be worth the risk to take it.  Check with your doctor to be sure.

how did you do without the zoloft - I'm afraid I'll go over the edge.

I did fine, but I was never an extreme patient in need of it.  I only had minor mood swings.  I have never been back on it since, but I do remember my doctor saying it was OK to take until I took a positive HPT.  Then I needed to quit.  You can always go back on after the baby is born.  Are you pregnant or ttc?

With my first son I was a wreck as they thought there would be some limb problems with him(there weren't) so I was a nervous wreck the entire pregnancy and my doctor offered to put me on zoloft. Talk to your doctor if you feel you will continue to need it. For sure don't stop cold turkey before talking with your doctor. Good Luck!! Ginger

Hi, I just came across your post and felt I needed to share something with you . I have a journal online at thelaboroflove.com and a old journaler there named Sarah was pregnant and took Zoloft. Her dr. assured her that it was safe too. At 39.5 weeks her son Trevor Michael was stillborn due to the zoloft. Please visit Trevor and Sarah's website . There is a ton on info about zoloft during pregnancy on there. http://www.true-girl.com/trevor .  Please read this information and browse the site. I don't want you to be sitting where Sarah is now. Good Luck.

I would like to add one more person to consult with regards to meds and pregnancy. I prefer a pharmacist's opinion anyday over a doctor or nurses (even though I was a nurse) and i am lucky enough to have a pharmacist in the family : ) You can also consult the Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation book (type the title into a good search engine like Google.com or Yahoo and you should be able to find a copy online) as it will let you know just about everything you need to know about the effects of these meds while pregnant and nursing.

Good luck!

Andrea

PS
I switched to Prozac for this pg as it is pretty mild and a lower dose, all is well so far!

I just wanted to post this in hopes that it might save a life, I found your post by doing a internet search on Zoloft and child birth. As my sister who was trying to do every she could to stay away from unproven drugs was suffering from mild depression and her doctor prescribed some Zoloft. She was in her last trimester, Up till then the baby had been what the doctor described as a Very Healthy boy.

By the next checkup they could not find a hart beet, he was stillborn.

You Can find a lot of news groups talking about the subject. Please look it, it is not worth the risk.
