I'm sorry that you are having to go through this hard time. Do you know when you ovulated? Do you remember when you had egg white consistency mucous? That would indicate when you ovulated. Sometimes a woman can be late in ovulating and that could throw off how far along you are. Often times, there will be implantation bleeding in early pregnancy. This is where the sac is beginning to adhere to the walls of the uterus. At five weeks conception, many times a yolk sac can be seen but not yet a fetus. Sometimes a fetus is not seen for a few more weeks. When the fetus because more mobile in later weeks, sometimes it will hide because it does not like ultrasound waves. If a woman has a tilted uterus, sometimes it will not show until later weeks such as 11 weeks. That fact that you have a good hcg count, is a good indicator. It amazes me how quickly many doctors are to doom a pregnancy. It is horrible when women are at the peak of their emotions. I would definetely wait things out until at least 12 weeks. You are very very early. The decisions is yours and I know it is very tormenting but it could mean having that baby in your arms. I have done extensive research on this subject for the past year and have through this myself. Don't let your doctor freak you out or push you into any decisions as my FORMER doctor did. I wish you the best. Let us know how it goes. The women on this sight are very good about watching out over each other. God bless you!
am in a similar situation after having In Vitro. Two 5 day embryos were transferred and pg tests came back positive and betas doubled.
At 6wks5days we had our first sono and they saw a gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole.
At 7wks5days they looked again and although the gestational sac had grown slightly, there was still no baby.
My reproductive endocrinologist confirmed that I had a blighted ovum and suggested waiting it out for 3-4 weeks before having a D&C.
At 8wks1 day I went to my OB/GYN for a consulation to discuss D&C options and scheduling. She wanted to do another sono and take a look. She found a heartbeat and a baby with a heart rate of 133. The baby is only measuring 6wks5days, though--instead of 8.
I don't know what to think of this, and cannot understand why the baby would be so small--with IVF, there's no doubt as to the fertilization date.
For those of you out there waiting, please keep waiting. I don't know how things will turn out for me, but I'm so glad I didn't rush off for a D&C after the 2nd sono!
