my daughter had her tonsils out at age 5, and the surgery itself did not take very long, and other than a sore throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture for a few days, she did great, and we no longer have strap throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture!!!which is a definant pro!!! the only thing you have to worry about is after surgery some kids won't drink and they get dehydrated, which they can get that way quickly because they are littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys. i gave my daughter lots of frozen popcycles to suck on and jello, and she did just fine. the pain med they gave her helped her drink and swallow so if your doc gives you pain med take my advice, and use it.
hope i've helped.

My sister and brother both had their tonsils and adnoids removed when they were young (around 5 or 6) - and lived on popsicles for a few days after with no side effects other than a sore throat. I, however, didn't have any troubles with my tonsils until I was 20 or so. I had them removed at age 24 and it was awful as an adult. I ended up back in the hospital for a total of a week after bleeding profusely. The doctor had warned me that the surgery is soooo much better when you are young than when you are an adult and I now believe him. I do wish I had had it done when I was little...
My daughter just had her tonsils and adnoids out Monday. She is doing ok right now. Her throat is really sore and has a mild temp but doing ok for what she went thru. She is living on Pudding and Chicken Noodle Soup right now. She really wants a Cheeseburger.....But i think she will have to wait a couple more days. My main problem is getting her to drink. which is the most important thing. she says it hurts..........

my 4 year old daughter just had her tonsils, adnoids and tubes placed in her ears. she came through it fine. it is a avery short procedure. the pain medication is a definite plus because they are a little sore and a little irritable after the surgery.
my son is 2yrs old and has snored since he was an infant. now that he is 2 he snores really really bad even stops breathing at times and is very restless during the night finding it very hard to sleep. the ear nose and throat doctor recommende removal of tonsils and adnoids due excessively large of both. has any one experienced this with a child this young? if so can you offer any words of comfort?
