alkaline phosphatase

if a childs alkaline phosphatase level is over 4000 what could that mean?

I'm sorry, but no one here is a physician.  Perhaps there is another forum that might be better able to answer your question, or better yet, ask the pediatrician caring for the child.

I will tell you that growing children and pregnant women have higher than normal levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), but I don't think it gets to that level (4000).  

How old is the child?  Has there been a direct bilirubin test done?  What does the doctor think is wrong?  What symptoms is the child having?
