The one hour "test" isn't really a test - it's just a screening.  A LOT of people don't pass the first one - especially if they aren't told to fast or have certain eating guidelines prior to the test.  And MOST of those people pass the 3 hour test with no problem!!

As for feeling dizzy and sick after not eating - that's just being pregnant.  Your body is working very hard to make that tiny person inside of you.  You need food to keep yourself and the baby going.

Take care and good luck on your 3 hour test!

I wouldn't worry....my last  2 pregnancies I had to do the 3 hour glucose....both times it came out just fine.  Take a deep breath and try to relax.  You'll be fine!

I too failed my 1st test and had to do the 3 hour test - but passed that one with flying colors.  As for the dizziness and stuff - that comes with pregnancy - I felt that way too and still get that way every now and then.  Hang in there - I didn't tell you to think positive :)  hee hee   You're going to be fine.

Why did they give you this test so early in pregnancy?  ARe you in the US?  Usually it is administered much later on...

no the dr. said every thing changed and from now on they will do it early, so in case you hsve diabetes they can treat it early and at the starting stage.

Nermine,
Many, many people fail the initial 1 hour and go on to pass the 3 hour.  I failed the initial one with my 2 other pregnancies and passed the 3 hour.  With this one, I do have GD and have to take insulin. It's really not the end of the world.  You'd be surprised at how quickly you adapt.  I see a nutritionist (which your dr should refer you to) and it helps a lot.  Dont worry.  You probably dont have it but I just want you to know it's OK if you do.

I just failed my one hour test the other day...i went back for my 3 hour one on Monday and passed. Almost everyone fails their first test and has to do the 3 hour one. Its really going to be ok...if you do have GD, then, its not that big of a deal, you will just have a nutritionist to tell you what you need to eat and when. It is not going to be devastating to the baby! Relax and go day by day...its really all you can do!

You scared me with the title of this post.

A 1 hour glucose screening test just is a way to identify those people who might need furthur testing.  It is not "bad news".

Good luck with the 3 hour.

That's not so bad! I thought you were going to say the baby died or something. Your baby will be healthy. This is an annoying thing, especially if you do end up with gest diabetes, but it's treatable and it won't make for a failed pregnancy. You've got a healthy pregnancy, be happy! You'll get through this.

Oh and by the way, my non pregnant self can go a long time without food, I usually don't eat breakfast. Now, I'm eating every 3 hours at night and can't go more than a few hours during the day without getting nauseated and reallllly dizzy. It's a pregnant thing.

AS long as you take care of yourself, your baby will be fine.

Oh, gosh...I got scared too thinking something really bad happened.  I'm going for my sugar test tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it.  Now, back to you.  It's not that uncommon to fail the 1 hour test.  It really is nothing.  I'd say that most pass the 3 hour test if they failed the 1 hour test.  Good luck with your 3 hour test.

Don't worry, even if you have gestational diabetes, the important thing is to know now so you can control your blood sugar and keep the baby healthy.  I had it and controlled it with diet alone.  The worst part is checking your blood, and as a person scared to death of needles I can tell you it's not bad at all.  My lo is totally fine, and her blood sugar tests have been normal.  DON'T WORRY!

Don't worry, I falied the 1 hr the first time around and it sucked, but I passed the second one.  If you do fail it, at least they caught it early.  I also lost over 15 lbs. with each pregnancy, was so sick and dizzy, it will pass.  Mine did for about 2 months each pregnancy, that's it.  Even though it's stressful, it's still normal and they are looking out for you.  It will be okay, good luck!

Don't worry. My sister had diabetes during her pregnancy and all they did was helping her understand how she should eat and especially the amount. She was always hungry but would tell me that the diet is not that bad and she was able to go with. She was fine. You will be fine too!

The baby won't get diabetes, either.  Nothing bad will happen even if the 3 hour doesn't go well for you.  You'll just follow a diet that is really just a healthy eating type of plan.  If you follow it, things should be fine.  At worst, you might have to have insulin shots, but even that is quite managable and nothing to really be worked up about.
