another high fever...

Okay so a month ago Cameron ended up with a high fever.. 104...apparently it was from mosquito bites. Now today he felt rather warm  to the touch i took his temp and he was at 100 which for him is a slight fever so i gave him some tempra...a few hours went on and again i took his temp and he was now at 102..an hour later he was at 103.7...he has his 4th bottom tooth coming out..no bug bites anywhere.. mi gave him a bath(added cold water once he was in and used to the bath water as well as some rubbing alcohol) I also rubbed the rubbing alcohol on him.. took his temp half hour after and he was still near 104...his appetite hasnt been very good today.. i had to kind of wait about an hour to feed him a little..he did take his milk and other fluids though which is good. I am happy about that but he was miserable all day.. he is finally sleeping and has been since 6:45pm...but for the past hour has been having some difficulty.. he sees his pediatrician tomorrow which is good but i am worried...he has never gone this high for just his teeth.. what is going on?

AJ was always at 102 with his teeth.  Hopefully that is the problem.  Good luck tomorrow!

i was told that teeth would never cause a fever that high.

there have been many similar posts recently- unexplained fever. Sime were just viruses, and i think there was a case of roseola.

don't worry too much. some babies get very high fevers. hopefully the doctor can give you some insight tomorrow. hope you get some sleep in the mean time- we all know how unnerving it is to have a sick baby :(

thanks alot ladies.. it is still the next day and he just had another bath..he didnt sleep very well last night..he is still a little cranky and threw up again after breakfast...(could just be the food? i dont know...we see his ped at 1:15 today)

I also heard that teething didnt cause fevers but with every single one of AJs 10 teeth he would be absolutely miserable for the day with a fever of 102 and the next morning he would sleep in really late (like 10am after going to bed at 7pm).  He would be perfectly fine with a cut tooth.  I dont know.  
It sounds like your baby has more than just the one day and some throwing up.  At that point it doesnt so much sound like teething.  I hope your doc can come up with something today.  Good Luck and I hope baby is feeling better quickly!

A few months ago my 13 month old (at the time) had a fever of 101 when he woke up, as the day went on it got up to 103.8 . I called the nurse and she said to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen. That  kept it down for a while but I had  to wake him up every 3 hours in the middle of then night because it would be high again. So the next day he was up to 104.2 and I took him to the ER, the nurse their pretty much told me I was an idiot and that in a child Noah's age a fever isn't bad it just means that he is fighting something. They gave Noah some more ibuprofen and then sent us home, I felt so dumb. Then that night I went to check on him and there were 3 separate piles of vomit in his crib and he had a rash all over and his fever was back up to 103.8. I called the on call nurse at his doctors and they yet again told me that the fever was not a big deal. Finally the next morning his fever was down and stayed down.  
Does this seem right, did I over react? I have always been told that a fever over 103 or even 102 means you need to go to the ER.

CYW - what did your doc mean when he said "fever from mosquito bites?"  That's an odd thing to say - I've heard of a very low grade fever being caused by mosquito bites when the person has many bites,  and they are very  swollen and red - indicating an allergic reaction.  The fever is low grade.

A fever that high indicates an infection of some kind - either viral or bacterial.  When he said "a fever from the mosquito bites" - was he talking about West Nile Virus?  

BTW,  a lot of people have very mild cases,  and fever and flu like symptoms are all they experience,  some people have no symptoms at all.  

I would ask specifically what he was talking about with the fever from the bites.  He sounds like a grump-head,  can you get a different pediatrician?

GRose-i dont think you over-reacted.. when DS had the high fever back in july due to mosquito bites, the dr after doing tests said nothing was wrong but that at ANYTIME if I don't feel comfortable with his fever to bring him in at anytime..that's what they are there for...

Rockrose-Cameron had about 15 bites on his face, neck and arms...they were quite red but not swollen...the pediatrician said that due to thise years weather up here being so damp that they are reproducing like crazy...he said that mosquitos carry all types of viruses other than west nile and that's all he had seen lately were babies with high fevers related with bites..that day I ended up going to my moms, which I felt a little more safe because she is indeed my mom and moms know what to do lol...anywho, that night while we were watching tv they were saying on the news about mosquitos and infants/toddlers getting fevers...getting sick...flu like symptoms, some worse some not but related to some new viruses that they are carrying...Hope it makes sense:)
