anyone else frightened by this?

anyone else frightened by this?

I read a story further down about a woman losing her baby at 8 1/2 months to the cord strangling the baby, Is anyone else frightened to death by this happening to them? I know one of the responses was that there is nothing anyone can do to prevent it, but it terrifies me that a woman can make it almost to the end of her pregnancy and then lose a baby in such a devastating way. It never even came into my head with my other 2 babies, although my ds did have the cord round his neck when he was born and was getting very tired by the end of the labour. But I am really scared this time by the thought of something like that happening!

YES I AM!!!!  I hate to read those stories.  If my little man doesnt move for an hour I start rubbing my belly trying to get him to move.  Poor thing is probably tired of me.  I really worry too because he is SO active (getting kicked in the ribs as we speak).  I cannot imagine going through the entire pregnancy just to lose the baby in the end.  I have a 4D ultrasound (not by doc, just one of those ultrasound places) on 11/10 and dont think I wont be looking to see where that cord is.

I thought about it alot when i was pg the first time. The best way to look at it tho, are that the statistics of it actually happening are very slim. (dont know exact, just not its a very little percent) that is the only way i can get passed thinking it will happen to me.

It does scare me a lot.  I have a friend who lost her baby at 36 weeks, the cord came unattached from the placenta.  She found out when she went in to the Dr. and had to be induced.  Not sure what totally happened but I guess it was a condition that ran in the family, but on her father's side and he had passed away when she was really little.  It was a terrible thing tohappen.  She went on to have 2 more beautiful daughters after.   I had very active babies, but I still got nervous.  It is pretty rare that it happens though, and my oldest son had the cord around his neck 3 times and tolerated labor really well.  They had to cut the cord and unwrap it from his neck before his body could be delivered.  I was told they don't see that too often either.  It will drive you crazy thinking about all that can go wrong.  I tried to just make sure they were moving each day, but was so busy when pregnant with my second baby it was a little easier.  Chasing after a preschooler and working full itme kept my mind a little more occupied than the first time around.  I hope things go well for you in your pregnancy though.

I was so so scared that this would happen to me.  My boss lost her baby the same way when she was 8 months pregant and then my aunt had a baby die like this too.  To have two people close to me that went through this made it so so real.  My baby was fine thank God i think all women go through this

I am very scard of this and after reading the story completely broke down.  With two boys in there, I don't know if there is a higher or lower chance of this happening but it scares me to death.

I was also scared althrough my pregnancy.Essp. getting pregnant right after a m/c.But I have to say'there is nothing anyone can do but take it easy relax & just enjoy your pregnancy. Not to scare anyone any more, but my friend Dara just lost her baby last wk at 38 wks.She was in labor, they could not find the hb & induced her 9 hrs later she gave birth..to a still born.'Sorry girls'.Maya 6p 15o.Her memorial is today. She was perfect,dr's could not explain 'why'.No cord around the neck nothing? My point is once you decide to have a baby, you have to worry for the 1st trimester for m/c,then the 2nd & 3rd for still born. Then like me 'SIDS' with my 3 month old.I think being a mommy period is scary. We never stop worrying.

From my understanding this still is pretty rare. The cord is very long in there. The reason it happens more during birth is because the baby is entering the narrow birth canal and is pulling the cord with it. I had two babies with the cord around their neck during birth. The first one, the were able to just slip it over his head, it was loose enough. With my last child, I had such a fast labor (I'm not sure if that might have had something to do with it), they had to make me stop pushing when his head was out and they had to actually go ahead and cut the cord before I could contine pushing him out. Both of my babies were fine though. They didn't lose any oxygen. Try to not worry. I know that's easy to say! I know we all worry when we're pregnant. I worried too, but everything turned out fine.

I think with the SIDS, there are products out there that you can buy that will set off an alarm if the baby stops breathing. Again, though, if the baby is healthy and you or anybody else in the house doesn't smoke (that increases the risk), everything should be fine. I slept with all my babies the first few months right next to me in a bassinet or sometimes in bed with me if I were nursing and fell asleep. You don't sleep as deeply though, you know? It's like you're always aware of them being right there. It's a protective thing, I guess.
Try not to worry, ladies. Just try and enjoy your pregnancies. Before you know it, your little ones will be in your arms! It really does go fast when you look back at it! God bless you all and your precious little ones!
