anyone had a bacteria in their urine in pregnancy??

anyone had a bacteria in their urine in pregnancy??

When I went in for my routine 4 month prenatel visit, which was great with a good strong heartbeat, my doctor said I had some bacteria in my urine..I think called, gardnerella.  He said it was common in pregnancy and nothing to worry with but needed to be treated with antibiotics as it can be associated with preterm labor.  He put me on Flagyl for 10 days twice a day. Has anyone had this problem. I am nervous about it and taking the Flagyl, in which the phamplet on it said DO NOT take in pregnancy. Please let me know if anyone has had this and NO HORROR stories PLEASE! I have enough worry as it is...LOL

Never had a urine infection while pregnant myself, but lots of women do with changing hormones  Drink plenty of liquids, water and cranberry juice is good.
Your doctor knows your pregnant and would not prescribe anything that would cause harm..Most medication says do not take if pregnant as a warning to consult your doctor.
Your doctor may also think its better to cure the illness (bacteria) than the long term  of not doing something about it

I know this is a little late but I took Flagyl also. I had a yeast infection and bacterial infection. Nothing went wrong. I am now 39 wks and due to be induced on Tuesday. More harm will come from the bacterial infection than will the antibiotic so you do need to take it.

Good luck

I would check out this medication before taking it.  I think I read something about it that was not good.  Not sure though.  So do a google.com check.  Also, ask your pharmecy to look up the medication in the Physicians Desk Reference.  If the medication says to not take during pregnancy, I would ask for another antibiotic.  I had an infection at 11 wks and was given ampicillian.  This is supposed to be safe for pregnancy.  Even in the PDR, it is referred as a level 2 for safety.  If it said anything different, I wouldn't have taken it.  I haven't had my babies yet.  Hopefully they are fine.  I wish you well!
