babies and sunscreen

Does anyone know if it's ok to use sunscreen on a 5 month old?  My doc didn't recommend it until 6 months, but I was just wondering how much difference 1 month makes?

You know I was wondering the same thing. My doctor said not to use it until 6 months as well. However I live in Arizona and put it on her a couple times at 4 months. Nothing has really happened and my daughter seems healthy enough. My sister used it on both her children from the time they were 3 months and on and they were fine.

I have always used the one for babies - I can't remeber the name but it's in a pink bottle. I started using it at around 5 months and he was fine and he even has very sensitive skin :)

A friend of mine asked her doctor the same question and he told her it was ok to use it at a month old. The reason she was concerned is b/c for one we live in sunny Florida and two he got burnt when she took him out to the beach and even though he was covered she didn't think about the reflection off of the sand. We often walk and she was worried about him being burnt again and so the doctor told her to use the baby face sunscreen. I didn't use it until my DD was like 5 or 6 months old, but am wondering about my second DD b/c she is the same age as my friends DS and with the summer coming and all.....????

Keep them out of the sun if at all possible. My doc has always said he would rather us use sunscreen than face the consequences of a sunburn. But sunscreen doesn't prevent sun stroke, heat exhaustion, or dehydration. All of those are extremely common in infants out in the heat, even if covered. I know everyone wants fun in the sun, but babies cannot handle much time outdoors when it is hot.
