baby measuring small for ultrasound

My LMP was on 5/31/07.  I am positive of this because we were on our 1st day of vacation when it started.  I was using a ovulation kit and ovulated about day 14 and then missed my first period.  It was our first month of trying so I am positive it happened that month.  On 7/23 I went into my dr. for my first check up and during my exam she said that I was measuring large.  ( I have two other children) but to be safe she ordered a u/s for dating on 7/25.  During the u/s the nurse said that I was actually measuring small about 6 1/2 weeks when I should have measured about 8.  She did pick up a heartbeat of 160 bpm.  I am guessing that is okay.  I am concerned that my baby is not developing well, how early can you detect IUGR.  My next appt. is not until 8/22.  I don't think I can wait that long to get some advice or reassurance.  It is consuming all of my thoughts.  Please help.

at this early stage in pregnancy, i wouldn't worry at all. i was in a very similar situation in that i knew for sure when i concieved but she measured 1 to 1/2 weeks behind the first few early ultrasounds. she caught up within a couple of weeks, and is very healthy.

Hi, Hope your not going crazy thinking about all this at once. I did that and drove myself crazy! I had 3D ultrasounds done when I was about 6 months pregnant and they told me at that time that my son weighted 4 lbs, the normal weight for that gestational age would be 3. Basicly they told me that he was a full pound larger then normal. They had me scared when it came time to have him. His weight turned out to be only 7 lbs. so I wouldn't worrie too much on such things. It's hard for doctors and hospital to tell someone how much a baby weights considering the baby's still in the womb. Hope it helps.

You could have ovulated late.  Also babies play the "fall behind, catch up, run ahead" game during pregnancy (and afterwards come to think of it).  I was told this baby was too small for several ultrasounds... now she seems to be on target after measuring big.  lol

It could be either to be honest.  Around 16-20 weeks or so the ultrasound for size and dating will be the most accurate (or so I've been told).

ok, I was wondering this same question... I was 110 % sure when I conceived and when the ultrasound came back the baby was small for that date... does that mean it was a different conception date or the baby was just small at that point?

I am having the same problem and our dates are almost exact. My LMP was 5-21-07 and I found out 6-22-07. My child is measuring small as well about two and a half weeks smaller than what they expect. I had that ultra sound on 7-20. I go back in on 8/17. This is my second child and I am worried as well. I was on the pill when I got pregnant and also my son is only 6 months old. I hope that both of our children are alight. Take care.
