birth control pill while breastfeeding

I'm exclusively breastfeeding my dd.  She is now 11 weeks old and I want to start birth control.  I also want to continue to bf her until she's a year old.  My doctor prescribed me Ortho Micronor / Jolivette.  He assured me that it would not harm the baby and wouldn't affect my milk supply at all.

Has anyone been on the birth control pill while breastfeeding?  What kind?  How did it work for you?  Any negative side affects at all (besides the usual with the pill)?

Any info would be great.  Thanks!

My midwife put me on the minipill cuz it has lower hormones. Gonna start it today, so I guess we will see! I dont think it should affect ur breastfeeding =)

I was on the mini pill with both my sons while breastfeeding.  The only side effect I was told was a decrease in milk thats why they usually give you the mini pill (doesn't effect milk supply)  Good luck to you both, I also didn't get my af back for quite awhile, breastfeeding can make it disappear and so will the minipill so just a heads up for you.

No, I haven't gotten anything yet...they called earlier this week and it was shipped to a slighly different street address rosa hall vs rosehall.  So we'll see if it gets "lost" or not...

I already have one person very interested in a party and I think my daughter's daycare might have one through the PTA as well.  So I'm kind of looking forward to getting the materials.  Will what I get in the mail show me how to place an order and collect $$ at the parties, etc??  I couldn't find much on that on the website...

Yes it will tell you in the sourcebook that they will send you! I will email you though with details!!! :) The daycare is a great idea!  I tried getting the daycare I used to work at to do one, but they didn't want to. The company calls them "toyraisers" and you get the money.......they get free toys! So ideal for a daycare. Plus if you sell your $250 for level 1 rocketstart, you will get $50 in free toys! I just got my free stuff from my one party.....it was all on sale for the summer sense-ations sale so I got a bunch! :)

Birth control that contains estrogen is not advised while nursing because of the impact on the milk supply. To my knowledge, the only forms of hormonal birth control that are acceptable while nursing are:depo-provera, the mini-opill (which is basically justa  daily dose of the medication in depo) and the extremely low dose of hormones in the Mirena IUD.

I would double check with another doc and/or pharmacist before taking.

I was on the pill while exclusively breastfeeding my son and everything was fine.  The pill I was on was called Errin (or Erinn, I don't remember the spelling) but it was a generic pill for another name brand, and I'm not sure which one.
