blake needs a feeding tube...(g tube)

HI..blakes getting better with bottle feeding..but he's only taking 17 cc (about 1/2 ounce) in thirty mins..and i want him home soon..so they are talking about just another minor surgery...a g tube... which would be in his belly and just tube fed the remainder of his feedings for now...i feel bad doing another surgery..but i guess what ever's best for him..does anyone have experience with this or knows anyone i ask the dr's and nurses abuot it..and they say yeah its simple and easy..yeah well coming from them im sure it is...any help would be great..thanks

i am glad to hear that he is doing better, and so sorry that he will need another surgery, but at least, he is making proggress, i hope to hear more good news about him. i have no experience in it and all what i can do is pray for him and you. (((hugs))))

Whatever Blake needs...  When do they think they can fix his mouth?  Poor guy, I bet that has been hard.

yeah they will fix the soft palate (roof of mouth) around 6 months..but until then we just keep trying

All the best and good luck in everything.  Sorry, I can't offer any knowledge on G-tube but I have seen patients with them.  Since I deal mostly with oral-motor, that's all I know :(  Usually children with repaired clefts do very well with some speech therapy.  Sorry you're going through all of this.  Hugs.

Blake had a huge turn around today..last night he took 30 cc (1/2 ounce) and 35 cc today..he's only  bottle fed twice a day for now...but they canceled his surgery..and are giving him more time..i was so proud of him : )

My daughter was born 2 months ago with a heart defect called TAPVR, she went through a successful open heart surgery and a few weeks after she had a diaphragm placation and g tube surgery, then 2 weeks ago she went to a last procedure, a pulmonary vein catheter and now thanks God she is finally at home. The thing is that before the pulmonary vein catheter she would take almost a full bottle of 40 cc’s but after the procedure she just won’t take even 5 without gagging and crying and getting mad so we have to rely on the g tube, which is great but at the same time frustrating. Does anybody know what could be the problem? Why she won’t even accept the bottle nipple in her mouth without gagging when before the surgery she was doing so great? I would appreciate any tip that help us deal with the situation and I apologize for my English, I moved from south America to this beautiful country only a few years ago and the language still gives me a hard time.
