I distinctely remember being 9 or 10 years old and that summer my Mom told me that I needed to start wearing deodorant. That is not too young, although I know my Mom told me that I didn't need to put a lot on. Your son could probably start to wear it, but remind him that he doesn't need to coat his little armpits yet. Maybe start with one stroke or one spray per pit and go from there.

my son is 6 and has worn deodarant off and on for a year.  He says he doesn't want stinky armpits.  He's a normal kid so he probably doesn't need it but the Dr said it's not harmful.  He's the only 6 year old I know who takes a bath every night (without a fight) brushes his teeth after every meal and cleans his room before going to sleep.

This will sound crazy but I swear it works.  If you don't want him using deodorant then he can rub a slice of lime under his pits.  The acidity of the lime kills the bacteria.  It's the bacteria that causes the odor, not the sweat.  If it's easier for you, you can mix frexh lime juice with a little bit of water in a spray bottle.  I learned this from my friend who had visited Costa Rica and this is what many people do there.  Apple Cider Vinegar will do the same thing, but limes smell so much better.

My 11 year old has been wearing deodorant since he was about 6 and my 5 1/2 year old wears it. I only but the kind that fragrant free because the fragant/cologne whatever it is they put in it is too strong for their skin and it burns. So you might keep that in mind.

my 8 yr old gets a bit stinky too. the aluminum in deodorant /antipersperant isnt something i want him to have in his body at this time. there are all natural types to use and id try that first. hey maybe that lime will work for me!! cool info.
