breastfeeding and normal menstrual cycles

by fitzy11, Aug 30, 2007 12:14PM
hi everyone. i have been bfing for almost 1 year now.  (my little guy will be 1 on 9/9!) i got my 1st post partum period in feb. for 3 months it came every 38-40 days, the next month 33 days, the next month 29 days. now it's been 32 days since my last one and nothing! my question is does it take as long as a year to get back on a normal cycle? i know some women don't even get theirs until they are done bfing. but mine came 5 month post partum and it seemed like it was gradually getting back on a regular cycle. thanks for any input.

I think that everyone is different. I was one of the unfortunate ones that bf and had a period every 2 weeks, things are still abnormal. Plus, I never could understand it as my dd nursed every 2 hours and I had tons of milk. Anyway, sorry to get sidetracked, If you have not had unprotected sex then it is probably the hormones adjusting. Also, you may notice there are times that the baby nurses more-growth spurts etc and this may cause a delay in your period.(although I'm the exception to the general rule!) Best wishes and congratulations on successful bf!

Could you be pg again?  Mine returned when my son was 10 months old, and was fairly regular from there on out.
