breastfeeding for a year and no period....can i get pregnant?

My daughter is a year in 2 weeks. I was an exclusive breastfeeder until 6 months and now only nurse at night and in the early morning. I am wondering why i havent started my period and what are my chances that I might become pregnant. How can I keep track of my "fertile days?"

Everyone is different. The fact is that you could ovulate at any time and therefore have a chance to get pregnant without knowing. I reduced my nursing at six months also and got my AF about three months later. If you are concerned see the doctor and if you don't want another baby immediately then use percautions. I didn't get my first af until I weaned. I started the weaning at 12 months and was down to 1 bedtime feeding for months 13 and 14 (14 and 15 mos for my second). About the time the last feeding was dropped, I got my first af. That held true for both of my older boys. You can test, if result is neg, test again 2 weeks after your last sexual encounter (if you go long between them, I know I don't,lol!)

Ovulation comes first, then AF 14 days later if you are not pregnant. It's the date of ovulation that matters, not the last AF.

Start temping - it's the only way to know if you are ovulating.  You don't need a period to ovulate.  My friend got pregnant without ever getting an AF after having a baby.  This is very common.  A lot of women think they need a period before they are fertile again.  GL!

I too have not had a period and have exclusively breastfed for about 8 months.  i'm down to 3 feedings a day, no longer than 5 monutes.  I was told that I could be ovulating at any time and to be careful if I didn't want to get pregnant!
