brown spotting at 5 weeks

Hi, I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant. As of yesterday I have had a little bit of brown spotting. It is very minimal. I know that this can't be implantation bleeding because it's too late. I have had a previous ectopic so I am very worried that it could be this again. I had my levels (HCG) checked on Mon. and they were 33. I should get my results from yesterday later today. My Dr. said not to worry yet (yeah, right!). I think I could be having a miscarriage or an ectopic. If I had an ultrasound would they be able to see anything this early? Any advice would be great!

They really can't see anything on u/s for another week. The number you get back today will tell you a lot.  You just want your number to double, or rise 66%.  I understand that it is tough not to worry, but remember that it is what it is.  Worrying yourself won't change the outcome...it'll just make you sick.

I had brown spotting at 5 weeks as well...and I know that it wasn't implantation bleeding, since I had already experienced that a week prior.  I had an u/s yesterday, at 7 weeks, and everything is great.  Strong heartbeat (160) and saw the baby.

In addition, I also had a lot of brown spotting during my first pregnancy from wk 5-8, continuosly.  She is now a perfect 5 year old.

I was informed from my doctor that brown blood is okay, red blood is more of a caution.
