They can usually see something at 5 weeks, at least a fetal pole.  But if you ovulated just a bit late, that can make things complex in that what you think is 5 weeks is really 4 weeks and something.  Why do you think it might be ectopic?

The doctors don't consider you "pregnant" until you get 25,000 for hcg.

I would wait for the ultrasound. You could be a week off or something. Also if your doctor pushes you...you might want to consider a different one. I would wait until 7 weeks along for a repeat since that way even if you are +/- a week there still should be a baby or at least a sac! Also see if they can track your hcg..if it drops twice you could be having a miscarriage

Ice, my doctor considered me pregnant when my hCG was over 5.  Maybe the doctors don't want to see a number less than 25,000 at a certain point of pregnancy, but almost any clinic says over 5 or at least over 10 means a woman is pregnant.

The thing I'm confused by in the o.p. is that she is acting like she is going to be admitted on no evidence but a 600+ hCG count at a very early stage in pregnancy.  That seems very weird.  The count could be totally normal, and in the 4th week there is nothing for an ultrasound to see, so why put someone into the hospital?

Annie, I was going off what my doctor said. They said over 10 is maybe pregnant as in the pregnancy might or might not continue..over 25,000 is pregnant and likely to stick..but I agree with you on the hospitalization. There is no reason to have to do a surgery. I would recommend her getting a second opinion.

only saw an sac no fetal pole. i'm 5weeks.. i think if they saw nothing they was gonna admit me for tests because they thought eptopic.. as i had pains on one side. I've been under the epu and ever since i found out i'm pregnant and under their care all they've done is scare me and my partner ********!! got another scan in 2 weeks xx
