not when i was young(i'm 43) but today, yes, unfortunately. The chicken pox shot has been around long enough that kids aren't catching it at a young age anymore. I presume you didn't get the shot, which is good. But since it prevented you from getting it younger you are getting it now. The chicken pox shot is new enough that they think it may wear off as the children grow up and nobody knows if the booster will take. We may have a nation of adults getting chicken pox soon. And as an added insult, adults who did get chicken pox as children get a natural booster from being around children who get chicken pox, without getting it themselves. But since not as many children are getting it, adults are not getting that natural booster, we may end up in a decade or two with thousands upon thousands of adults getting shingles, a much more serious problem.
