clomid - starting on the right day?

Hi there, we used Clomid successsfully to have our first child who is now 2.5 years old. We are now trying for a 2nd. I planned to use Clomid this month, periods are usually 31-36 days, but this month I had bleeding on day 27 and it was brown colour and very little. This is not so unusual for me, the initial day of brown blood, but usually on the 2nd day of my period I get real blood. This has not happened yet. So now I don't know what to do b/c I'm suppose to start Clomid on day 5 of my period but I'm not sure if my day 1 counts as day 1 because I don't see any real blood yet! Does this make sense? Any comments would be helpful. Thanks. so much
