clomid and cysts

Hi. I've been thinking about something and wondered if anyone might have any information for me. I had a D&C back in July. I took clomid due to irregular cycles and got pregnant the first time taking 50mg. When I went in for the first ultrasound they discovered that I wasn't measuring where I should have been and also saw that I had a pretty large cyst. When I went back for my two week follow up appt, the doctor felt where the cyst had been and she felt that it was gone. I know that clomid does cause these type of cysts and that it is normal to have cysts develop in early pregnancy, I guess I'm just concerned as I know they can twist the uterus etc. I'm getting close to the time when we can start trying again and I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of getting back on clomid. Any thoughts would be wonderful. Thanks! I will ask my doctor as well but wanted to put it out there still... just as a side note my progesterone was really good and my hcg levels were up to around 5,000 at 6 1/2 weeks so my doctor doesn't feel that the clomid contributed to the miscarriage.

the cyst you are referring to is fairly common in early pregnancy- clomid induced or not. believe it or not doctors actually consider this "pregnancy" cyst a good sign because the cyst actually produces progesterone for you until the placenta can take over. it is highly unlikely that the cyst had anything to do with the miscarriage. it is more likely that clomid caused a "premature" egg to be released which subsequently resulted in a non viable pregnancy.  studies have shown that clomid induced pregnancies have a higher rate of miscarriage due to this. (i've read as high as 40%)  that said- there is no reason to suspect another cycle of clomid would have the same result, in fact odds are with you that it wouldn't.

FYI on the cyst thing- i had one with my last pregnancy and now have a healthy happy 1 week old. :o)

well i was on clomid for a while before moving to repronex.  I was actually on clomid and progesterone. and the final winning combo was repronex, hcg, progesterone and intra uterine inseminations.   With that said I got the bulk of my cycts (hyperstimulation is what she referred to it as) while on clomid.  But as for weighing the good and bad..  I would not have gotten pregnant and had my wonderful baby boy with out it.  so for me it was worth it.  Good luck to you
