clomid

by tura, Apr 28, 2004 12:00AM
I just had a lap done last week and I had several cysts removed from my ovaries.  My tubes were also blocked and the dr was able to open them.  He now suggests possibly going on bc pills for 6 months and then waiting another 2-3 months and then starting clomid.  I nearly cried right then and there.  We've been ttc for over a year now.  He told me to wait for AF and then make my decision.  To follow his suggestion of bc pills or to just go ahead and start clomid now.  Any suggestions???  Am I being too impatient?   Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have absolutely no experience in what you are going through, but I just wanted to offer my sympathy. I know it is hard when you have been trying so hard and the dr's tell you to wait even longer. I am sure there are success stories that go both ways (from those who waited to those who didn't).

I hope someone here can help you further. In the meantime, I hope it works out that you don't have to wait. ((hugs))

maybe you should ask moe questions.  there is obviously a reason he wants you to do the bc and then clomid.
i know that bc pills can shrink cycts and that time would also give your tubes a chance to recover from being opened.
i know a lady who had her tubes opened and it worked they got pg right away, but i have also heard that you have an increased chance of ectopic pg shortly after having your tubes opened.
i know this probably hasn't been much help and i know how hard of a decision it is to make you want a baby NOW. i just think you need to ask more questions.  write down every conceivable question you can think of. and then call and ask.

good luck

He said that taking bcp prior to starting clomid therapy has been proven to  increase your chances of becomming pregnant. The emotional rollercoaster of ttc just gets a bit hard to deal with at times.  I'm sure most everyone here can relate to that!

i hear that, my sister and i were just talking about that. her freind said almost the exact same thing i did... this is one rollercoaster i wouldn't even wish on my worst enemy.

good luck to you i hope what ever you decide that it works out for you.

I had ovarian cysts removed when I was about 14 and was put on birth control to help with it. It helped alot. I did get off of it when I was 17 and didn't have any trouble with them for about a year. I don't know what to tell you to do, but going on bc does help get them under control and the pill form does not really stay in your system after you stop. It would probably be better to do as he suggested to ensure you won't have complications. Good luck.

I got the impression that he wanted to put me on the pill because studies have shown that when using clomid after coming off of the pill increases your chances of becomming pregnant.  I don't know.  I just hate the thought of having to wait another 9 months.  I swear my biological clock is ticking so loudly it keeps me up at night :)

I understand you wanting to get pregnant, 9 months is a long time to wait to even be ttc. If you really don't want to do it, don't. You know if you can take waiting, if you can't then tell him. I know what it is to want a baby now, and not in a year or two. Do what is right for you.

I have heard that you are most fertile right after giving birth or m/c. This may not be true at all, just something I heard once. However, you say you m/c last Saturday? Have you had your hcg levels drawn to be sure that they went back down to 0? I doubt you could be pg that fast, but you should probably get your hormone levels checked.

i was on clomid and had cysts.  maybe the dr. wants to make sure all the cysts are under control and that your tubes are healed before you start clomid.  i had a tubal last year and when i researched it a little, i found out that women on clomid have a greater chance of having a tubal.  maybe with that and the newly opened tubes he just wants to be safe.

I'm sorry for your disappointment I can only imagine you want this NOW!  I totally understand.  The only thing I can offer is that if you rush something that is not meant to be you may be even more hurt and disappointed when the results are not what you expected.  I know it's awful to wait, but better to wait and have a better chance at a successful pregnancy then to rush it and have a sad outcome.  Hang in there time goes by quickly.  The BCP will also take some stress of you as you won't wonder if you're pregnant every month.
