constipation

Hey girl good morning to all!!
Wonderful day here in Ontario Canada

What do you girls do for constipation in babies?
He is on similiac lactose free  which i found didnt give him gas as bad as other formulas  but it has iron and now after 2 days he pooped a bunny terd only!!
i dont want to leace it go any longer so he dont get totally bunged!!  I know people say some sugar in the formula  any other ideas?
If i keep him on this what would you recommend for long term (until he eats solids)

My mom and I were just talking about this an hour ago.  She said that they make baby glycerin suppositories.  Supposedly they work REALLY well.  So well in fact that she didn't even put my diaper back on b/c before she could get it all the way in I would start going.  This is what I"m gonna try.

Have you tried prune juice or something????  I am sure it does not taste very good but it may be worth a shot.  I had always heard Karo syrup in the bottles but that was old school (you know back in the 70's when I was a baby). I would work the legs also.  You may want to ask you pedi what they think.  I know mine always says no suppositories but all dr's seem different.  Good Luck to you.  I know how miserable that has to be.  Take Care and thank you for all of your help you have given me.  I hope I have returned the favor for you.  LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

I have heard of using a teaspoon full of sugar in 2 ounces of warm water, but I used baby prune juice warmed a little first and that always did the trick.

He is 4 months old and I just have introduced him to rice cereal for 2 days now which I heard is also constipating!!
Can anyone win!!!

Pear juice was recommended for my son when he was just a few months old.  My cousin uses prune juice her her infant....I would try those before using using and meds.  do not know how old your little one is but Prunes and Applesauce make him poop within hours....thats a thought once he eats solids.

If he is getting very constipated on the rice cereal then I would switch to oatmeal.  My son just turned 7 months and he never really had a problem with the rice....two other babies that are his age (2 weeks older and both girls) had to switch to oatmeal because of being contipated.  I would call the pediatrician and ask them what to do.  I was told pear juice...but I can tell you right now that my son will go two hours after eating Prunes with Applesauce.  My son will have a hard movement once every few days because I have him on a variety of solids.

I had to put the dark kayro surup in my son's bottles.  It worked at first then he got used to it and it didn't work anymore, this may sound gross, but I would sometimes have to use a thermometer and roll it at the opening of his bottom, not inside, to stimulate him to go.  That is what his doctor recommended, but your childs doctor may have another idea.
