cystic hygroma at 12 weeks

Please help,  I am 36 yrs old and recently told at my 12 week ultrasound that my baby has a large cystic hygroma.   The prognosis I was told was "very poor".  We struggled through IVF to have this baby and recently had a fetal demise at 16 weeks  in Nov. 08 for unknown reasons.  We are devasted and don't understand.  The doctor recommends termination.  This is our last chance.

In your shoes I would read up on cystic hygroma and ask a lot of questions before I would consent to termination.  From the little I know about them, they are serious a lot of the time (serious both as indicators of other issues that are also serious, and serious in that mortality is high) but that some kinds are less serious than others and sometimes even spontaneously clear up (though I don't know if that is true when the baby is in utero).  So do your reading, and ask the doctor what kind of cystic hygroma it is, and do your best to understand.  Why do you say this is your last chance to have a baby?  Is it not possible to do IVF again?

annie my beautiful little boy was born 11 months ago with a cystic hygroma on his neck. he is a wonderful happy healthy little boy. he has had several check ups in hopital but so far its all just wait and see. they must give you more information before asking you to make a decision like that. god bless
