Good morning ladies! I am trying to get my daughtrer a doctor''s appt., but right now i am worried. She is 10 years old. She has had a stomach ache since thursday. I had to go pick her up at schoolPreschooler development Preschooler test Preschooler test or procedure preparation School age child development School age test or procedure preparation School-age children development. Later that eveningEvening primrose Evening primrose oil she was feelin better. Then this weekend she had it again. She didn't eat much at all. Of course she is a very thin child anyway. Skin an bones. Last night she was feelin better. Then this morning she is sick again. She says it feels hot inside. She has not thrown up or anything. She has been goin to the bathroom . So she's not constipated. She says if I press on her tummy it hurts more. Not a sharp pain just like she is goin to throw up. I just don't know what it could be. I don't know what the doctor can do, but I'm gonna take her anyway. My mil seems to think it's her appendixAppendectomy, but I don't know about that. Does anybody have any ides's? I'm a wreck!!! She is never sick.
Wonder if I should take her to the er or the doctor? If they have to do an x-ray i will have to take her to the er anyway. The doctor's office will not answer the phone!!!
I'd take her to the dr or er, urgent care as soon as possible.
Especially at 10...my friend had those same symptoms and it was her gall bladder...not sure if a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys girl could have the same trouble...
I would take her ASAP to the doctor -- if you can't reach him then an urgent care or ER. It really could be her appendixAppendectomy. My friend's daughter's appendix ruptured last year --she's about your daughter's age.
Also, try pushing where it hurts and ask her if it hurts more when you push or when you release. On release can be appendix...
Is it near her belly button? Which side? Also, have her sit on a stool (or something bar stool height -- kitchen counter) and jump off. Does it hurt her stomach then?
Those are the couple of tests my ped did when he suspected appendix with my DD, but wasn't her appendix.
Once again, it may be something minor, but only a doctor can diagnose...good luck.
I finally got him. I just got back and I am shocked! He said it is an ulcer! He gave her zantac. He wants to see her back next week. He mentioned doing some x-ray's.He said it was more common than than most people think. He said most people just put it off to a tummy ache. I am so worried about her. Thanks for answering my question. Does anyone out there's child have an ulcer? He told me to not give her spicy , or fried food's. No garlic , caffine, or CHOCOLATE!! Thanks again!
Awww...I didn't mean to make you worry! I just know that going through something stressful can cause ulcers...which I did go through a VERY disturbing ordeal when I was a teenager, so I just wanted to throw that fact out there...ya know?
And I wouldn't feel to guilty about the diary thing...at least it calmed your fears! LOL Just don't EVER tell her! ;-)
As far as ulcers go, here is some info I found on WebMd.com, if you would like to read up on them...the degree of severity is different for each person, but this will at least give you some insight. I remember with mine, I thought I was having heart problems, because I would have chest pain for no reason, and it was so bad at night that I thought I would have a heart attack. My stomach would hurt (like your daughters), and I would attribut it to an upset stomach. I finally went to the dr (when I was 18 years old) and was diagnosed with ulcers. This was after heart tests had been run, of course.
Anyway, the ulcers eventually went away. They took some time to heal, but the meds really helped with the symptoms.
Your daughter should be fine in no time (ulcers are VERY common)...but if she if prone to ulcers, she'll want to always have Zantac or Pepcid on hand if eating spicy foods, etc...because that will aggravate an ulcer to no end! :-)
Oh...one more thing. I was given Prilosec for my problem, so if the Zantac doesn't work, ask the dr about prescribing Prilosec for her. It worked GREAT for me!
I was reading on the net about ulcers in kids. It said it not very common. Even though others and the doc. say it is. It mentioned a peptic ulcer. I had no idea how many types of ulcers there are. So confusing! she said after the zantac her stomach feels better. It just hurts on her side now. Not enough to make her stop doing anything.
Don't know any children who've had an ulcer, but I had one when I was 17. At least you caught it before it turned into a "bleeding" ulcer.
If she takes the medicine, she should be fine...and the ulcer should go away.
You may want to find out if anything is troubling her, though. At school, at home, etc...because is may be stress that is causing it. (kids picking on her, trouble with school work, that sort of thing)
Although the meds will do it some good, she needs to also be as worry free as possible.
I am so glad I cought it time. Everything is fine at home and she does very well in school. She is on the honor roll everytime. The only thing I can think of that might be bothering her is, her dad is working out of town. They are two pea's on a pod. Very close. but he has been working out of twon for about two years though. Things are better now because he get's to come home every weekend and some during the week. I know this is bad, but afteri read what you said - I went and read her diary. So bad of me, but I am worried mom. Everything in it is normal girlie stuff. So and so is cute, made an A on spelling test. Went to the mall, ect.
Will an ulcer go away, or does the med. just treat it?
I've heard you need to treat the ulcers with the antibiotic that kills the H.Pylori bacteria--how did the doc test her so quickly? Did he run a test for that or just kinda look at her belly/symptoms? In order for my ulcer to get diagnosed (at 17) I had to have an upper GI series (barium swallows, imaging). Of course times have changed --I am really just curious.
Stress can be perfectionism too, ie the perfect grades etc. I agree the dad thing is hard, poor thing. No soda pop btw--worst thing. Bland, white food (rice, bananas, oatmeal, etc) was okay (but way boring). No chips, junk. After 3 years of drinking milk for the ulcer, I found out I was allergic... to milk! So that didn't help either.
Mine cleared up after I was out of stresful situation--changed colleges. Have you considered a child therapist? We took ours last year due to new stepfamily issues/nasty ex issues and it REALLY helped them to have someone to talk too.
He didn't do a test or anythig like that. He just asked about her symptoms and pressed on her stomach. He gave her the zantac and wants to see of it helps. He said next week if she's not better he wants her to go for x-rays. I am so confused. I just talked to her Daddy and he is in in denial. When he was younger he had all kinds of test done to see what his stomach problems were. They never figured out. I hope she hasn't inherited something from him. Even though we don't know what it is. They did upper G.i and everythigng on him. They tossed it up to a nervous stomach. It's hurting her now. She says it hurts above her hip bones toward her rib's. On both sides. that's what confuses me. I thought an ulcer hurt in one spot. It hurts her really bad when I press on it.
Especially at 10...my friend had those same symptoms and it was her gall bladder...not sure if a little girl could have the same trouble...
Good Luck...May God watch over your DD.
