I am eighteen and a half weeks, and I have a tooth that I think might need to be pulled! I had a root canal on this tooth, but then didn't get a crown on in time, and the tooth cracked. My dentist tried to fix it a few years ago, and then put the crown on it. It has lasted until now - but I am afraid that if I get a tooth pulled I might need antibiotics and I know only certain types are safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex at certain stages of pregnancy. Has anyone else had majorMajor tears Major-gesic dental work done while pregnant? I will call my doctor, but I am stressing about it now.
Hey There,
I know how you feel about sore teeth!! im 26 weeks pregnant and just went to the dentist.. everything went great but my molar teeth are just now coming in ((ouch)).. I had 4 permenant teeth removed when I was younger to get braces put on (my mouth was way to crowded) so now the dentist wants them pulled otherwise ill have messed up teeth again.. he told me that id have to wait till the baby was born to have them removed.. Your dentist and doctor might feel different but im just telling you what I was told.. Talk to your Ob and dentist about it.. does your dentist acknowledge that your pregnant?? what did he say about it?? congrats on your pregnancy and im very sorry you have to go through a tough time with your teeth!! also im sorry you didnt get to see the babys sex... that would make me upset too.. I found out at 18 weeks I was having a boy.. he was spread open like a eagle!! but look on the bright side.. at least you know hes healthy and doing well!! you can always have another u/s or just have a wonderful surprise when the baby is born!! hope to hear from you soon and take care!
Thanks for your reply! I forgot to mention that my tooth is KILLING me, or I would definitely wait ;-) I will talk to my doctor (and dentist) tomorrow, but I am pretty sure I'll have to do something. I have been avoiding tylenol, but sometimes the pain is too much and I take two.
The clinic I went to said they don't usually tell the sex of the baby - apparently they've had lawsuits if they are wrong. But she clearly couldn't see. I didn't find out with my first, but this time I thought it would be nice to know. DH was happy, because he really wants the surprise.
Don't worry about taking Tylenol if you are healthy. It is exactly what is recommended during pregnancy. No Motrin or Advil or aspirin.
And most antibiotics with the exception of Tetracyclines are fine during pregnancy. It is probably worse to have an abscessed tooth than to get it properly taken care of.
Thanks for your advice. I went to the dentist this morning, and it turns out it is a different tooth, and I need a root canal. Not pleasant, but better than having one pulled! When I called my doctor this am, they told me to call Motherisk - they informed me that dental x-rays are very safe (especially after the first trimester) and that most antibiotics are safe as well. Newer antibiotics aren't as well tested, so they suggest I ask for an older one. But I don't think I'll need antibiotics now. I am very happy, even though I have a root canal appt. today at 5pm!!! Thanks again. (BTW I am Kat23 - my logon name at work is different!)
