did anyone's ob do sweeping of the membranes to get labor going? did it work?

Has anyone gone into labor from having their membranes swept? I'm 39 weeks, 2 days, and I think that's what my OB did this AM. His prediction was that I'd be in labor within 48 hours, but I don't think I've felt anything yet! I'm 90% effaced, 3 centimeters, and I don't think I've ever even had a contraction. Is that possible? Please let me know your stories..I'm getting anxious and impatient! Just want to meet my little guy! Thanks.

Im not sure. I am a 2 days behind you and I am the same way! I am 2 1/2 cms. completely effaced and he is down. I have been havign contractions for a week now but nothing significant. I hope it wokrs for you! Im hopeing my dr. will do that tomorrow!! Good luck!

i had it twice and it never worked. once at 39w, once at 40w and she was induced

I had it done with my dd.  My water broke 3 hours later!

I had it done with one of mine, and went into labor just two hours later. HOWEVER---I was two weeks overdue, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

I have had it done with all my kids.. after the first three.. you would have thought i would have learned by then... for some it works.. for others it does not.. its a swoosh (ouch) swipe errrrr hit or miss for everyone i would think.

they stripped my membranes at 430pm and by 730 i was having contractions and went to hospital at 230 was 7 cm had him at 530.  so yes it worls but ive heard that when they strip them there should be a little blood and thats how you know it will work
