drop in progesterone levels! please help

by annakate, Dec 13, 2003 12:00AM
I would appreciate any insight. I found out I was pregnant @ 3 weeks and 5 days, my HCG was 400 and my progesterone was 26. I was very excited b/c these are great level for a pregnancy this early and I suffered a miscarriage this summer. However I had my levels drawn again only 3 days later and my HCG had doubled to 987 which is good but my progesterone dropped to 13.2.  I am more concerned about the drastic drop then the number 13 which is not all that low. My doctor put me on prometrium 200 mg every night.  Does anyone know what would cause a drop like this, and has anyone has a pregnancy do ok with a similar experience.  I am just so worried because I already feel like this is leading to an inevitable miscarriage again with such a big drop. What is your honest opinion. Please respond . Thank you

I haven't heard much about progesterone levels, so I can't help you much.  But ease your mind by remembering that your hcg levels look great so the baby is definitely growing.

Pregnancy progesterone levels
    1st trimester 11.2 - 90.0 ng/mL
    2nd trimester 25.6 - 89.4 ng/mL
    3rd trimester 48.4 - 422.5 ng/mL

These are normal levels, so you are getting close to being low.  They can give you supplements to sustain a pregnancy!  Prometrium is an example.  MY HONEST opinion is that I would have them write you a flipping persciption.  Don't you have to wait a couple more days before they test again?  Why wait?  To the doctors it's another month that you didn't conceive, to us IT'S A LIFETIME.  Good luck!!!!  Keep us posted on what your levels are :) momttc
