ectopic pregnancy?

This is my first post and I have been reading so many of these because when you are going through things it helps to know others understand what you are feeling. I too have been told that I could have an ectopic pregancy. I took a pregnancy test 2 weeks ago and it was positive. I really don't know how many weeks pregnant I am because my periods have been so irregular, and I can't remember when my last one was. They have said that my hcg numbers indicate that I should be around 4 to 5 weeks. They have done 3 hmg test within the last week. The first was 455 and the last one was 3305. The doctor said that those numbers were good, but they should have been able to see something in the u/s by now. She also checked my progesterone and it was 6.6. She told me not to give up yet, because the hcg numbers doubled like they were supossed too. I am scheduled to have another u/s Monday. My nerves are shot, I don't think I can wait til then. I am so confused, because I too have read about it being dangerous, and if my numbers are up then the baby is growing, but how come they can't see anything?

My ectopic was never spotted- not in the tubes and not in the uterus.

You say you don't know how far along you are, so maybe it's just too soon to see anything.

they havent decided as of yet, the doctor said that it is pointing to that because of my hcg numbers and noting on the u/s. She said they should have seen something by now

When you had the Ultrasound,  weren't they able to look at your tubes to determine you weren't having an ectopic pregnancy?

how far along are you??  numbers doubling is a good sign.  its a classic sypmtom of an ectopic if you progeserone is under 5..  I had an ectopic in november and had my right tube removed.  best wishes to you..

notooold - are you sure you're using the right term?  I'm sorry to keep asking,  but an ectopic pregnancy means the embryo is growing somewhere outside the uterus,  usually in the fallopian tubes.  If left untreated it becomes very dangerous.

I'm wondering why they sent you home.  It seems like  if a doc suspected an ectopic pregnancy,  they wouldn't just let you go without making a clear determination,  and then treating you right then.

I could be way off base, but I think if they can't see anything in the tubes then there isn't any immediate danger, therefore they could send her home and wait a couple of days.  

If they can't even see it in the tube yet, then it's not big enough to be a danger of rupturing.

No, I don't mind at all. My hcg rose to above 7000. I had repeated vaginal u/s's, but nothing (not even a sac) could be seen. My doc consulted some other obgyns, and they all agreed that something should be seen on the u/s at that point. A D&C was done to see if there was any pregnancy tissue (which, they didn't find. If there had been, the assumption would be it was abnormal and sent for testing.). After that, I receive methotrexate.

I started thinking it must have been developing somewhere other than inside the fallopian tube, because of how high my hcg got. But my RE did lap last month and found a lot of adhesions attached to the outside of the left tube, so I think it may have been in there after all.

Also, my doc did a progeserone test right away (I had a m/c 5 mos. prior), and my level was less than 4. So, I suspected an abnormal pregnancy early on. No need to apologize- the EP is what led me to medhelp.
