My son has it and I really don't think you can prevent it.  I would like to know if there is.  I feel so bad for him but since the weather is nice, I think his condition is better.  It breaks my heart to put medicine on him everyday.
Good luck with your pregnancy.

eczema is not a condition you catch from others. there is not really any prevention. when a child does erupt( if they do) applying cold to the itchy areas can help. there are alot of creams available from your doctor. Eladil(sp?) is a pretty good maintenance cream that is not chock full of steroids like the typical ones. also sometimes if the child is old enough, allergy medicine like claritin can help.

oh and just so you know. most eczema is an allergy type reaction.

good luck.

there are several factors that make eczema worse, diggin in dirt, certain soaps and cleansers, with adults, smoking and caffiene. i have read evening primrose oil is good for it, but not sure about using it on children. there are some great prescriptions out there too. maybe there is another dietary factor to cause it to flare up.

I have been plagued with having excema. Its not contagious, just an annoyance. I found that Shikai Dry Skin lotions works wonders. It has borage oil in it and is all natural. Its  the only thing I found that works without using steroids. You can research in on shikai.com

I do not know if this makes sense, but I read that in small babies eczema is developed by giving too many baths. Had no idea!

well bathing a baby too much can cause skin problems. my sis was washing hers 2x a day and the dr said to stop. he was getting irritation.

Eczema can also be a symptom of a milk/soy protein intolerance!  This is definitely worth looking into!  My friend was exclusively breast feeding and when she cut out all dairy and soy from her diet, her little guy's eczema cleared right up!  So, it is an allergy thing.  :)

My son has no allergies but a tendency to develop eczema or contact dermatitis. It has always been very mild cases but I can say for sure it is related to soap and laundry detergents. Too many baths, perfumed detergent and fabric softeners can do him in in a day.

My 5 yr old has been diagnosed with eczema.  I have recently tried Nutragena Theraputic shampoo on her and it seems to be helping.  Aveeno also has a new shampoo.  According to the dermatologist, my daughter is scratching her hair out and then the rest of it comes out as a snow ball affect.  I'm still trying to figure out what triggers the itching and have recently gone back to using Dreft to wash her clothes and bed linens.  I never considered that it could be milk.  We have gone to the allergist and all of the tests came back negative.
