effects of clomid on clear blue monitor § First Response OPK

by ripdip, Jun 14, 2004 12:00AM
Well I posted here about clomid and using OPKs.  Many replied so I thought I'd give you the results of my informal test.  I used the clear blue easy fertility monitor and that actually worked perfect.  It gave me 3 high fertility days and then Ovulation.  I also used the First Response OPK and that also worked fine, although my negatives were a bit darker then without the clomid and it did confuse me.  But there was no denying the LH surge was DARK purple.  I liked using both although expensive, I could test with the First Response OPK twice a day when I noticed it was close to the same color.  I was able to pick up my surge that afternoon and it was confirmed the next morning as both monitors were positive.  I ovulated on day 16 that's 3 days earlier then normal so I know the Clomid worked.  Let's hope this one's a keeper as I have no trouble conceiving, it's keeping I have trouble with.

I am also on Clomid. I have Polycystic Ovarian Disease and cannot ovulate without it. I have done the Clearblue and Answer brand OPK's. Both have been very effective. Answer showed up this weekend very dark pink line, no question I had the LH surge. This is the first time I have ovulated in five months. I am praying that conception occured! Does anyone else have POD? I would love to hear about someone who conceived, but it affects such a low percentage of the population that I don't hear about it often.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and I'm now 27 years old with a healthy 4 month old daughter.  Unbelievably, I conceived as soon as we started ttc just a 2 weeks off bcp with no fert drugs.  Best of luck to you!

That is wonderful! I wish I could say the same thing! My first son was conceived about a year after I went of the bcp, with no fertility meds, but this time I am going the Clomid route because I am not ovulating period. Has your doctor spoken to you about risks of cancers or anything with POD? I have read so much about it, but have not seen my doctor since the ultrasound. I had a call from her nurse putting me on the Clomid, but that is it. I have been somewhat concerned about what I should expect as I get older with the disease/syndrome?

Not sure what happened to my last post, but that is wonderful! I wish I could say the same thing! It took a year and no fertility drugs the fist time, but this time I am just not ovulating. So, I am going the Clomid route. I did and OPK and I actually had an LH surge this weekend, so say a little prayer!:) When you were diagnosed with POD what were you told? Did your doctor talk about the increased risk of cancer?

My doctor is skeptical and wants to run tests - he thinks I may actually not have PCOS so he plans to run more tests but I bet I do.  I guess we'll see what comes of it.  Thanks and good luck to you!

Have you ever tried to google.com search for clomid success stories?  I don't remember which site it was, but there was alot of success stories in regards to PCOS.  It really gave me hope.  Some even conceived on their first round of clomid!

I have PCOS. No success story yet- but working on it really hard. I have 2 kids that I had when I was 19 and 20- I am 30 now (almost 31 but i don't really like to think about that lol) and it seems the older I get the harder it is. I had a miscarriage last July and now my doctor is finally looking at putting me on Clomid. So far, he's had me on 500 mg of metformin (glucophage) 3 times a day. I've been on it for 6 months with no luck- I went to get my progesterone tested today (day 22) to see if I ovulated. Last time he tested, I had a level of 14.2 which I thought was good but I heard an interesting thing about that from the lab technician today- she also draws the labs for a fertility clinic in town- she said that although they consider you to have ovluated at 10 or higher that you really should have a level of 20 or above unassisted (no fertility rx) on cycle day 21- she said any lower and if you got pregnant you wouldn't be able to sustain a pregnancy-most likely would miscarry before it was time to start your period- have you ever heard of this? I'm going to ask my doctor about it when i get my labs back today.

Nice to talk with someone else who has PCOS. Hard to find people going through the same thing. I've heard so many things that are supposed to help- but so far I haven't tried anything my doctor hasn't recommended. I've heard taking vitamin B6 and progesterone cream can help extend the luteal phase (which apparently alot of women with PCOS have trouble with), I've also heard that taking bc pills for 1 month and then going off of them works too. Just can't bring myself to take bc pills though-makes me feel like I'm giving up- even for 1 month.

Sorry to chat your ear off- just excited to find someone else who knows what PCOS is and is going through the same things I am.

I was told the same thing about the progesterone test.  Last month, before clomid I was 10.3, this month with clomid 100mg I was 49.9.  So for bringing up the progesterone, clomid has done the trick.  I wish you all the luck in the world!

Wow! I am so glad I have someone to talk to about PCOS! I have one child who is going to be six this year and we decided it was time to have another especially since my husband and myself are over the 30 mark (I'll actually be 31 in Sept.)But, this is not the first time I have gone off the pill. The last time I went off and did not have AF for 3 months. They had to give me Provera to start it and then for the following 3 months I had irregular periods and no ovulation. We had some life changing events and I had to go back on the pill. At that time I was not even diagnosed with PCOS. My doctor never even had me come in for any tests! Then this time I went off and did not have regular cycle for the first 3 months and the 4th month I had my period for 14 days! It was awful. Finally my OB said come in and they ran blood tests and did an ultrasound. The doctor in the room said you have PCOS. I was like O.K. what is that? The doctor's office called and wanted to test my progesterone on day 19 or 20, but my wonderfully unpredictable AF started on day 17, early again! I was very upset at this point and like you could not stand thinking of wasting another month. So, they called in Clomid and I started it on 6/4. I showed an LH surge on 6/12 and 6/13, but yesterday I started cramping and I am still cramping today. So, I have put a call into the doctor. I work with the lady who actually showed me this website and her fertility specialist told her that her progesterone only needed to be a 15 to sustain a pregnancy. She is now 16 weeks pregnant and doing very well. She did have the HCG shot both before and after. But she has not been on any fertility meds at all. Her progestrone level has always been in the 30's, so it is possible to have a high level with no help. I am only on 50mg of Clomid, so that is very positive. I have heard of woman conceiving in the first cycle and the second. I think the pregnancy rate is 70% for the first three cycles. I read this really great medical report online the other day. I will try to find it again and get it to you. It has alot of great info on PCOS! Please keep in touch!
