excessive heartburn!!!!

excessive heartburn!!!!

Hey ladies!  I've been on complete bedrest now for a week and a half.  It hasn't been to bad cuz the weather has just been crummy.  But now, over the last 5 or so days, I've had some killer heartburn.  I haven't been eating anything out of the norm, so I'm guessing I getting due to no exercise and  always having to lay down on my side.  So, my question is, how much tums can I take in a day.  I've just been taking two to be safe, but it's only soothing for an hour or so. I don't want to call my Dr. just because I'm seeing her on Friday and don't want to hassle her.  Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance!!!!
Blessings,
Candace

Laying totally flat in bed can't be helping! Sorry for you. I avoid spice and fatty foods (oddly enough sour things do nothing to me). Lots of water too.

Tums are useless, try zantac, but check with your doctor first.

I also used mylanta and kept it in the fridge.

i was told not to take more than the recommended daily dose on the bottle. How far along are you? I'm 17 weeks, and the dr prescribed me pepsid 40 mg. it's been a lifesaver! call your doctor and ask. i go to a high-risk doctor, and i trust what he tells me. dh is a pharmacist and he agrees it's ok for me.

The label says not to take more than 16 in a 24 hour period, my doctor said one to two every 2-4 hours as needed and a glass of milk should help, good luck I hope it gets better!!

use Zantac or Pepcid AC, totally safe, my doctor said i could take as many of those as i needed, Tums will stop being effective after awhile anyway and the taste will eventually turn you off like it did me!

Go for the good stuff!

My OB said you can take whatever the packaging says for Tums, regardless of the strength - just follow the label.  Mine was really bad on and off (so bad my throat swelled to almost closed), so they put me on Prilosec.  I don't like taking meds, so I went off after my throat healed and have been doing Tums maintenance ever since.  It only mildly helps, but it's better than nothing.  If it's at all possible (and first check with your doctor), you should lie down and sleep with your head and chest elevated.  I was told this by the OB, the ENT and my primary care.  Simple gravity will help keep the acid out of your throat.  Good luck!!
