false positive.... depressed

by Misty19, Oct 25, 2006 12:00AM
i got up this morning and decided to test though af isnt due till tomorrow and i got a faint but clearly there BFP i was so happy. i took the test to dh work on his lunch break, he was so thrilled. i told him i was going to get a name brand hpt just to be sure(the one i had was wallmarts equate) so i went and got first response..... one line. feeling really bad now for getting so exited. any chance the generic is tha right one?( i doubt it but not bad to ask.)

I agree with JJety. The first one was probably right. I use the Equate brand ones too - and have never gotten a false positive. I think you should test again tomorrow morning. Good Luck!!!

Girl i recommend the CVS brand!!! that is 100% accurate for me so far and unlike the first response, you can see very clear a line if it's +! don't get bummed!!!! you know what they say...a line is a line.....i personally HATE first response....
Good luck!

The Walmart brand equate are very good.  I used it last Monday in the evening and got a faint postive.  Do it again tomarrow.  You are going be like me, I tested myself for 7d every other day just to make sure and followed it up with a blood test on monday.  My hcg was 2001 - smile I bet you will get you postive in the morning.  The equate brand picks up 25hcg

When I got pregnant I used the first responses because I thought they were the best. Well, after 4 or so mornings of negative first response, I went out and bought a K mart brand, and what do you know, I took first response in the morning (negative) and k mart in afternoon and got a BFP! Then a clearblue digital, positive. So I don't like first response at all. I'd go with your first slight positive. Get a clearblue, it's so much better because it just says pregnant or not pregnant. Much clearer than having to decide if the line is dark enough to be positive...

To: misty - GOOD LUCK! DONT GIVE UP!
I agree, take a test with FMU!  LET US KNOW as soon as you test.  Dont be discouraged....false positives are not that common so I would think the first one was right.  I took a first response when my AF was 1 day late and it took it forever to come up.  I used EPT +/- and it showed up right away!!

GOOD LUCK AND LOTS OF BABY DUST YOUR WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never heard of a false possitive...I have heard of a false negative..I say try it again dont be bummed chances are you are the test doesnt come out positive unless it detects the HCG hormone..chances are the levels are not that high yet and the other test didnt detect it...Dont loose hope, I think you are!

Try it again in a week I took a pregnancy test a day after period didnt arrive and it was neg then I decided to wait a week later and took another and it was pos good luck.

My advice is that you shouldn't trust first response.  I tested with one a day before af was due, got a negative, went on vacation thinking not pg, then when I returned tested with wal mart brand and got a bfp.  I will never use first response again!

by sarubers, Oct 25, 2006 12:00AM
I tested with a first response and they both said negative. Then I tested with a generic one because I felt like I wanted to waist the least amount of money as possible, and sure enough, it was positive. The chances of getting a false positive are very slim. So keep smiling and take another test.

I agree if AF isn't due yet then chances are that testing half way through the day might have meant you wouldn't have enough hpt in your urine...not all hope is lost...I'm excited now...I would buy like 3 or 4 cheap tests and test everyday that you are late!!! Good luck and keep us posted!

I agree with all of you. You can get a false negative but it is very unlikely you get a false positive.

Good luck!!
