fetal sex

I heard an old wives tale that you can determine the sex lf your child by the heart beat. Even if it is not true it would give us some idea of what the baby is. It's heart beat is 155.  Any help?

hello there,
i thinks it's just an old wives tale..... our first son's heart beat ranged anywhere from 120 to 140, our second son ranged anywhere from 135 to 148, and our third son ranged anywhere from 135 to 160, so it's really hard to go by that, we thought our third was going to be a girl because the heartbeat was a bit higher but it turns out that that was not true......
good luck!!!

My dr determined from the first heartbeat with my daughter that we were having a girl (it was high-int he 150's every time) and she said she had only been wrong once in 20 yrs of guessing by hearbeat. My friend's baby had a high heartrate from get go so we thought it too would be girl, but alas a little boy. I think there is SOME truth to it, but there HAS to be a little more science to it as well! I wouldn't count on the heart rate for sex determination though!

Thanks for the feedback.

Both of my boys ran/have bene running in the 160's consistently, supposedly the heart rate for a girl. I have yet to see anyone really prove this wives tale. In all honesty there are only a couple of ways to know with absolute certainty

1. Amnio
2. CVS testing
3. Birth!!

US can be pretty close, but they are not infallible either.

Oh gosh Andrea! Don't scare everyone! LOL Right now there are women reading this going "US isn't certain? BUT THE ROOM IS PINK!"

LOL-My lamaze teacher told our class of 15 mothers ALL expecting girls (according to u/s) the same thing about the US not ALWAYS right, to which I jokingly replied, "Well if mine is a boy, his name is Kassidy and he is coming home in a dress to a pink room."

All laughing aside, one mother in our class DID have a boy!!! Oh, well, they recovered quckly!

I love the name you chose! And that website is really neat too! I may have to ask you about that when I get preggers again! My family would LOVE someting that they could log onto to see progress!

Let me just say..in our unit we had this couple come in...they had SEVERAL ultrasounds saying it was a girl..so they have one little boy already..got rid of eVERYTHING and went ALL out pink...well, a BOY came out! They were PISSED.  The doc said "i kept telling you don't go buy all pink" but they didn't listen! sooooooo i'm witness to ultrasounds aren't always accurate.  My three sons all had varying heartrates..my first was in the 160's the whole time...BOY..second was in the 130's...BOY...third same thing! I carried them all differently too! =)

My sons heart rate was always well above 150 when I was preg. The nurse checked his heart rate just moments before my ultrasound to determine the sex. She said to me "I'm pretty sure it's a girl because of how high the heart rate is!".... a few minutes later we found out we were having a boy. So, I guess there is no way to tell...you just have to wait and see. :)
